Forums - Sales - How Important is FF Type-0 Performance on XB1?

You make an interesting point. According to VGChartz:
FFXIII: 5.26mil PS3, 2.11mil 360
XII-2: 2.65mil PS3, 0.73mil 360
Lightning Returns: 1.00mil PS3, 0.22mil 360
Type-0 HD Pre-Orders in USA (as of week ending Feb 28th) put XB1 at about 2/7 of PS4 version's numbers.

Well we all knew FF sold better on Sony consoles anyway, so those numbers really aren't news. Some might argue that out of the many 360 owners that switched to Sony this gen (many which previously owned the PS2 but skipped out on the PS3), many possible XBOX FF buyers were lost; but of course we have no way of knowing that. Sony does get a lot of exclusives of Square as well.

My theory? It should continue the trend and sell between 2/7 and 1/5 of what the PS4 version does worldwide. However, I'm not sure if Square is ready to ignore a whole other user base for their main titles though; no matter if the sales are 1/5 of the PS4's. I'm no expert but I don't think the cost of developing for XONE as well outweighs the profit they might make by bringing it to the console. As for anything that isn't a mainline FF title (and is from Japan), I agree that PS4 has a good chance of locking them up.

"We have seen 3rd party publisher see sales of a port and determine their audience is not on a console (See just about everything 3rd party and the WiiU)"

First, that's completely wrong.

With that out of the way, I say type 0 performance on X1 is irrelevant for future support. After all, square is supporting it despite things like lower sales of previous games and inexistent x1 presence in japan. MS is clearly giving Square some in$entive to keep getting the games.

Actually its completely true. Thus the reason UBI and EA dont support the WiiU. They tried a few ports the 1st year none of them sold so they stopped bring games to the console.

That's not true especially for EA. but this isn't the place to discuss it.

I think there is a strong correlation between the later games and who they appealed to outside of Final Fantasy's dedicated fanbase. That dedicated fanbase on playstation. The main entry games however will garner more interest on Xbox and the ratio will fair better.

The point is,with Type-0 selling that low in USA,it is pretty easy to sony to moneyhat type-1 for example.

Let say this games sells 500k lifetime like @Tiago said. That means that if sony offers $30 million for Type-1(500k x $60 - maximum scenario) they would be covering whatever sales SE would have on XONE without the costs of porting.

That is basically what MS did in the first half of last gen.Since PS3 install base was small, the sales projection were smaller, thus,it was cheaper for MS to moneyhat Third party games somehow.Once PS3 install base got big enough(second half of that gen),MS stopped with the moneyhat(or at least slowed down) and the only AAA exclusives they had were the First parties(AKA halo,Gears and forza trio). That's why people had the impression that X360 "lacked" exclusives.

Oh I agree with you; moneyhatting is a logical possibility. I wouldn't call Type-0 or Type-1 a mainline title though. When I say mainline I mean the main numbered series, which I believe will continue to be released multiplatform until Square has a good reason not to.

Yea I tried to make that distinction later on in the post but I guess I didn't do it very well. I do believe the main titles will continue to be released multi-platform. Mainline FF games are huge and don't necessarily appeal solely to one group, so I definitely agree.

Final Fantasy games will likely stay multiplat considering it is a highly recognized series. However, games that do not have "Final Fantasy" on their titles will likely skip the XB1. I won't be surprised if Dragon Quest XI goes on PS4 only considering that DQ Heroes is a Playstation exclusive and thus, all of the DQ fanbase will be on the PS4.

My first week prediction is:

Type-0(PS4) almost a million WW.

Typ-0(ONE) < 150k WW.

More hyped games have failed to launch with that big a number. Maybe Japanese sales will help, what are you expecting there?

Or Maybe I didn't read past the first 2 paragraphs :p

It would have been smarter to made a psv version instead of xb1 version
