Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo and mobile company DeNA form alliance, will make apps featuring Nintendo IP

As long as this doesn't translate into investing money they would normally invest in games they would make for their own consoles, I... might... try... them... Unless they are "free-to-play" of course. I'm not even touching that Pokémonshuffle game for 3DS.

I guess Nintendo will be crying all the way to the bank about it then.

This isn't some small little deal either, it's a capital investment, Nintendo now owns 10% of DeNA, and DeNA is a pretty huge company. DeNA even owns a small stake in Nintendo.

It's going to be the big gun IP, just tailored for the smartphone format. Again they're also stressing they want to do this to introduce Nintendo characters to wider audiences ... so it's gonna be Mario, Pikachu, etc.

Again though, there is a big difference between introducing characters/IPs and actually bringing the games themselves to smart devices.

It's not like Mario iOS will be the same thing as Mario Galaxy 3.

What's probably going to happen though is that Mario iOS is going to far outsell the "NX" Marios, lol, even if it has simplistic/rudimentary game play. Casuals don't give two f*cks about gaming depth.

Unfortunately what I see happening here is Nintendo will eventually get a taste of that sweet, sweet mobile gaming profit nectar and become hooked on it. It's going to be big profits for them and over time they will focus more and more on it, whereas dedicated game devices are a declining market for them.

An App starring Mario, like Puzzles and Dragons, is one thing. Actually making a mobile Mario Kart title would be quite another, and monumentally stupid.

Nintendo is not going to bring the premier experiences to the phones and tablets. You will get the pokemon shuffles, Dr Mario's, Mario Vs Donkey Kong, Angry Zelda's. I thought this was common sense.

Fake Kaz hirai never disappoints.

The two can coexist if they are sufficiently different though, in the same way as consoles and handhelds have done for decades.

PokeCrush already exists, it's called Pokemon Shuffle.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

lol, Sony and Nintendo are now the two largest shareholders in DeNA.
