Forums - Nintendo - What has happened to Zelda this generation?

Considering these last 5 Zelda games have been all great, who the hell cares? Seriously. Even Hyrule Warriors was well received, and ALBW is one of the best Zelda's of all time, so who cares?

I'll seriously never get why someone wouldn't want an iteration of a good franchise to release regularly, especially when it's of the quality of these recent Zelda games which, to be frank, have been much better than the last few actual new console titles.

pretend that remakes doesnt exist.
just play the new games.

ALBW is amazing, and worth as a high standart zelda game, and zelda for wii u is promissing. 1 new great zelda per console seems right for me.

Every other console had 2 new 3d Zeldas. MM and OoT for N64 and TP counts for both GCN and Wii, I don't care what anyone says to the contrary. Even then, this could be forgiven if they gave us at least 1 entirely new Zelda for the handhelds, which they didn't this gen.

@ Everyone else regarding ALBW

The world is the same as ALttP. Like exactly the same. Not inspired by. Not just reusing elements. I recently got it on the VC for my wiiu. I thought it was just influenced, but I was astounded by how closely they remade it. They even share many of the same secrets such as that giant hole in the village.

Now that we have Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time on the 3ds, remade, I'm hoping for a new Zelda game (either for 3ds or N3ds exclusive) that is in the same engine to finish the Hero of Time Trilogy :)

I'd rather have a four course meal than 4 appetizers and a dish.

I rather Eat 1 meal than Starve....

Well, you get your wish because looks like this gen you only get 1 meal. Not saying Nintendo's leftovers aren't good, but I don't see why you don't hold them to higher standards.

Its a new game, no matter how similar it is, it has an equal if not greater amount of differences between the games.

Again many people liked the game and it was received very well. It only seems like your affected by this hence there really isnt a problem.

Its almost like Somebody not calling Skyward Sword a real Zelda game because of its heavy motion controls, but in the end it is a zelda game^

First i didnt even buy any remakes because i personally dont like them (with few being exceptions).

That said i dont need to hold them to a higher standard, im at least happy with 1 game per gen, as to why its because there are some franchise we dont even get any games. Also you keep saying 1 but we got 2. ALBW was definitely a meal for everyone, aside from you and a few others^

And if they remake the past 5 zeldas again, they should be just as great and you will still be happy? That's how it works right? Personally, I think zelda has been consistently good since like 1995. I can't continue to say that if they don't make more games.

if we think about the time between a game and the next, is about right.

OoT, WW, TP, SS and zelda U took 4 to 5 years to the next.

The only that is not here is MM, but is you consider ALBW the same as alttp, someone could consider MM the same as OoT just because they have the same character desings.

Development costs are rising, development times are increasing, and Nintendo's losing money. They're doing almost everything as lazily as possible in an attempt to just get a lot of games out there. I'm still happy with a lot of these games (LBW was pretty fun, and I had a blast with MM3D), but I can see why they're doing it.

Since we're stuck with comparing these games to meals, I'm going to use food analogies. If ALttP was a ham sandwich, ALBW is when Nintendo removes the ham, takes the same bread and puts bologna on it. Very similar, still delicious, but clearly not as good. I'd rather Nintendo made spaghetti instead of more sandwiches. As for the other franchises, I want another Fzero. No one else does though. I also want another Zelda, which a lot of people want. It's not really surprising they would make another Zelda over Fzero and that holds true for most other things. Of course, that's an entirely different problem on its own.
