And in Europe you could increase the price and it would outsell the xbox 3:1. At this point you can get a xbox in germany for 299€ with several games included and it wont sell. Sony has basically no competition in Europe. Maybe they get down to 349$ and put a game in, but this is the maximum. |
Hmm no they don't. Sony (as well as MS and Nintendo) have dropped the price in one region but not another. Foreign exchange goes a long way in what can and cannot be done in that aspect.
Strictly speaking about NA, Sony's first official price drop for their previous 3 consoles have all been $100. The longest they waited for the first price drop was 19 months (they will wait longer for the PS4).
I feel confident in saying that if Sony can be profitable, or at worse break even, on the PS4 HW, they will drop the price to $299 this Fall in the US. If they can have the price drop WW, then I think they will do it. I believe they could already break even at $349 now, but they will wait for a price drop that will have a major impact. They might introduce a $399 1TB SKU bundle that will have a higher profit margin, but I am sticking to my guns that Sony will announce a $299 SKU at E3, Gamescom, or TGS.

AHEM! Dominator. Crushed everything. Still got a $100 price cut 19 months after launch. How many times do I have to point this out? I think I just need to put it in my signature so I don't have to keep repeating myself. |
Sony was run by Krazy ken back then. They want the ps4 to make billions. A price cut might not happen soon if they keep dominating. Imagine they held off to next year! Personally I think the USA and UK gets a cut to combat halo 5.
So, I wake up and find out that I've been correct about The Order's overtrack after all. And about 80K overtrack is a 40% error, so I was correct to say it was severely overtracked.
Really, the sales are closer to 500K than 600K WW, and with shaky legs to stand on, it seems that it will struggle to even break a million (unless they significantly bundle it later, which I doubt).

Everything but The Order was pretty much undertracked
Also I think The Order can break a million. If something like The Crew could on PS4, I don't see why The Order couldn't.

That's only retail. The US digital store has about 15k ratings I think so that would suggest with digital sales included the WW first week is over 600k. Will definitely hit a million. And digital sales are the most profitable for Sony so they do make a difference.
Pretty good sales overall then, and congrats to 3DS :).

MS will have Halo 5 & Tomb Raider exclusive this holiday. Even if TR comes to PS4 later, it'll be exclusive to the XBone this holiday. I also think MS will have the Xbone for $299 this Holiday, probably bundled with a game or two as well. Of course, Sony will probably cut the price to $299 too, but, unless we get a surprise announcement, MS will have the upper hand to win Nov + Dec again this year and shorten the gap. |
Price cuts are made when hardware sales are down. PS4 is in opposite situation. Yes. PS4 will get a price cut. But given the sales numebr I think it wont be coming soon.
The ltd gap might be 1.5 million when Halo 5 launches. I wonder if Halo 5 and the price advantage will be enough to overtake that, especially if Sony cuts the price.
