Forums - Nintendo - Rock Band 4 not coming to Wii U because "the audience is not there"

Around the Network

Excelent response. Just to the point, we don't like the sales of the console and that's it.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

If Rock Band 4 is successful, then Activision will probably revive Guitar Hero and put it on the WiiU. They don't have a grudge against Nintendo.

To be honest. Why encourage your userbase to keep purchasing games on a dead platform?

Best thing to do is focus your resources on a product that sales and the audience will come. Better having your userbase on two consoles instead of three

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

I think is a very bad excuse, who is publishing, is it EA again, that may put things in perspective. I am confident that the new Guitar Hero will come to the console, Activision has not abandoned the console yet, even if it has reduced the support.

no.

"When it hits store shelves later this year, Rock Band 4 will do so without the aid of a major publisher.  The game will be co-published with MadCatz, however, who is once again lending a hand with hardware and distribution. Harmonix is free from their Viacom VIAB -0.68% overlords, and as such the burden of success is placed solely on their shoulders."

harmonix is basically in indie developer right now and rockband 4 is a massive gamble for them.   the franchise was killed originally by the inventory management of the expensive plastic instruments and it will kill them again if they overship by even a little.   a lack of wiiU isn't anything personal,.. it's just a risk that harmonix isn't willing to take with their very minimal resources.  honestly i'm surprised they are even willing to gamble on ps4 and xbox one in the way they are.  i expected a downloadable title only.

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

I doubt the audience for Rock Band is anywhere at all. C'mon guys, there's a reason they stopped making these games, everyone moved on from playing with plastic instruments.

I didn't need to.  Ratio wise rock band is much bigger on xbox and playstation compared to wii than just dance. With xbox and playstation selling way better than Wii u the potential sales are way down especially with so few casuals on wii u.

Your statement that Rock Band was bigger on PS2, 360 and PS3 than Wii was false. It was biggest on the 360, but by a small margin. Rock Band isn't some huge seller, it sells pretty consistently among platforms and that's how it makes its profit. Blatantly ignoring a platform just because is idiotic, as if this game will be some monster to develop and port over.

By the time Rock Band 4 launches, the Wii U will have a pretty substantial market for party games. Nintendo Land, Wii Party U, Mario Party 10 and the Just Dance games will have solidified that. They literally wouldn't lose anything.

It wasn't really an official statement.  I was saying it's bigger with the other fanbases and i meant ratio wise.  Back when rock band was at its peak the Wii had a very big lead over the xbox and ps3. It's telling that despite that it was bigger on xbox and almost as big on Ps3. Those ratios would suggest with the current gen that the Wii U would do the worse of the 3 main platforms by quite a bit.  I'm sure they did their research on this otherwise you'd see a wii u version.

So the Wii U doesn`t have a hardcore market AND a casual market? Then what market does it have then?!

please don`t tell me Nintendo only market.. TwT

Sounds like a weak excuse honestly. I wish they would just say "We don`t want to release a Wii U version because it`s not worth it. The install base is too small" Also, last I check, the Wii is retired, so of course people will move on from it. Most people do. : P

A thriving Indie Market. Which is pretty logic if you think about it: Due to the lack of games from the other publishers, the indies are getting much more exposition in the eShop than they would otherwise.
