You cant call it journalism, most in the business dont have a journalism degree. They are bloggers. That 2/10 The Order 1886 review was awful, no one in good faith could have given such a score. There is nothing broken with the game, for a game to receive such score it should be an unplayable mess.

It's sad that this is an issue honestly. Reviews should help consumers see certain points of a game and decide whether it is worth purchasing. The reviewer shouldn't lie and give it a lower score just for attention. Honestly, I think that review scores shouldn't be used as many only focus on that number rather than points that are brought up in the review.

As they said, this is mostly an issue with the little websites, and we have pretty much known this for a long time.

PS: Anyone find it funny that a small site is issuing a controversial exclusive?

This is obvious. These are businesses, clicks generate money. It's a small fraction of an issue, though. Affecting pretty much just the lower scale sites, as the article suggests. People throw it up any time their favorite new game gets below what they think it should.

Seems like even that article is biased and has credibility issues. Why don't they discuss the other end of the spectrum? Didn't a site counted on Metacritic give The Order a 9.5? Who doubts that was anything but clickbait?

I have never allowed a reviewer, review sites/scores or the general consensus sway me from a game I am interested in. Unfortunately though a lot of the gaming masses live and die by these things, I take every review with a grain of salt (unless multiple reviews state that the game is a broken mess and unplayable, that would be the exception to the rule).

It's pretty much what gamer gate has tried to bring to everyone's attention but they were just labeled misogynist and everyone ignored them.

Hasn't anyone noticed that negative news or opinions (reviews) get more views. More views equals more money for sites so there is no incentive to be positive.

There is more to a critique than looking for arbitrary reasons to be dissatisfied, but there isn't more to getting views-> ad revenue. There is no code of honor or consumer advocacy group. There is only the desire to convert your page view into cash.

It was genuine. I heard the reviewer talk about it afterwards.
