EA putting money before it's costumers? What a big surprise...

Or maybe putting their most loyal customers before their less loyal customers? Yeah, what a terrible practice. Nobody other than EA would ever do that.

Yeah, you're right. I really didn't think that post through enough.

It's not so much about the immediate percieved value you get from EA access now but about how it affects you later down the line. EA has a really bad reputation and they're already confirming some gamers' fears about how they would use their service. Locking content or access to their games behind a paywall/service. If that is successful, more publishers and developers will use a service like EA's to lock content behind. PS Now hasn't been used like that because sony doesn't make the vast majority of content or own it. Also, sony is the proverbial gamer friendly company.

I don't know about you but I rather just be able to buy the exact games I want to play, maybe buy dlc for whatever one and just play it. That's just me but I can understand if someone wants to rent, stream or subscribe for games for the value. That's why more centralized services are better for gamers that want something like that. They don't own the vast majority of content or games and therefore can't control any content beyond what they are licensed for.

Well the entire industry has been putting content behind paywalls. 3rd parties generally do it in the form of DLC. I'd argue its been successful because we see plenty of it. We also see content being locked on certain platforms because a 1st party threw money at them. Something the gamer friendly Sony has done on numerous occasions.

1st parties have paywalls called PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold. People actually believed Sony would never charge for online play, but PS Plus from the get go was a stepping stone to doing that and I predicted it years before PS4 launched.

Centralized services can potentially be more expensive and don't give much options. Hence, with PS Plus and XBLG you get whatever games they choose. Also, you can miss out on "free games" because you weren't a subscriber at the time or forgot to download a game when it was available. There is no backlog downloads for games you missed on those services.

PS Now has a lot of games from various publishers. But the library won't appeal to most gamers and very expensive to have it annually.

With EA Access you know exactly what games you'll have access to for $30 a year. Any paywalls you're concerned about will probably be done through PS+/XBLG and DLC.

Lastly, what other publishers would/could create a service like EA Access? Most publishers don't create enough games to do something like it. The only other companies that could potentially do it are Ubisoft, 2K, and MAYBE Capcom down the road if they put out a lot of content this gen. Activision wouldn't because their library beyond CoD is mostly shit.

Atlus, Sega, Capcom, ZeniMax Media, Square Enix. There's plenty of 'em. They had enough games to offer in a service for a small fee or more. It would take way too long to sniff out more/better examples so I'll just leave it as is. I don't know why you brought up all of that about paywalls when I never said or implied that paywalls are bad. I said that we don't need anymore paywalls in a different post. As far as i can tell, you're only measuring what you gain from EA access versus other similar services in the short term. Like I mentioned in another post, EA access is already on the xbone and we'll see how it plays out on it.

Edit. Didn't see that you responded already. I would left this much shorter. haha

I can't believe there is still debate over EA Access...Will this repeat each time a new EA game is released?
Game is being released on 3/17. If you subscribe, you get it a few days earlier...Why anyone wouod be annoyed by that is beyond my imagination.
There is a simple solution if you want the game early: subscribe to EA Access. If it is really important to you, buy an XOne, simple, problem solved.

And I still don't understand people defending Sony for reducing options. I have a PS4 and would love to have a chance to decide on EAA's value by myself. I don't value it that much to switch consoles, but would have appreciated the chance to try out some games like NBA that I will certainly never buy.

I guess people on the internet just need to complain about something. I know I do. But it helps to sometimes find a better reason for complaints.

Atlus is Sega so lets just say Sega. I can't see them starting a service like EA Access given their halfhearted efforts in console gaming. They can't create a service like that with niche games like Persona. However, if Sega brought many of their classic games 8th gen consoles for a small fee, well I wouldn't mind that. The same goes for Capcom, I wouldn't mind have access to many of their classics for a small fee.

ZenixMax and Sqaure Enix simply don't make enough games annually to create a service like EA Access. Those are studios that would also have to offer a backlog from past generations to encourage people to subscribe to their services.

Hence, you're worried about every publisher starting a similar service but its just not realistic. MS isn't gonna let every publisher start a subscription unless they have a strong library to offer. A more likely scenario is MS starts another subscription that gives people access to many old games. Kinda like PS Now's subscription service.

My prediction is Sony gives in and allows EA Access on their console. There is demand for it, its a good value, and at some point they're gonna get tired of Xboners having access to EA releases first. If people are this angry about BF:Hardline imagine how they will react to BF5.

I certainly hope you are right. I'd rather pay $30  year and know what I'm getting, than pay $50 (note: I do not pay that) for a monthly lottery ticket.

This is a good post. It's not even that big of a deal.

Both PS Plus and EA Access are great services for those interested in what they offer.

In my opinion MS should consider bundling the X1 with a year of EA Access. That's a lot of content and can motivate people to buy a console.

It's almost like people don't understand why EA Access is only on the Xbox One. EA more than likely make higher margins off sales through EA Access than they would if it was sold through Xbox Live. Because of the arrangement, EA most likely more money per title, and thus selling at a discount through EA Access (depending on the discount) is probably more profitable than selling titles on Xbox Live. This gives them an unhealthy advantage over their competition since they can provide a discount while maintaining the same margins as their competitors. Since Origin shares no such margins, EA has no economic insensitive to release EA Access on their own PC platform.

This isn't about consumer choice, this is about creating an unfair economic advantage on a closed system.

Note: Gamer's can benefit from such a relationship, but it comes at a cost.

Its most likely because Origin has 492 games that PC gamers would be expecting in their vault. The only options would be:

1. Allow EA Access on PC with only 8th gen games and have people complain about not having all the games.

2. Allow EA Access on PC with all games and raise the price substantially and have people complain about the price

3. Not allow EA Access on PC and have people complain about not having it.

Bullocks.

EA Access never needed to include every game. It has special deals to EA Access members only. If EA saw value in it they would bring it over. It wouldn't even need more games than the Xbox One version, it's just a subscription service that has it's own restrictions. As far as pricing, they can say that it only includes EA games in the discount. The problem is tht gives third praty developers more reason to strike an exclusive deal with Stream, because of the unfair advantage this gives EA titles as opposed to an even playing ground like Steam.

Their reasons are economic. It is in their best interest and not the customers. Windows is an open system, I have an alternative to publish on Windows. Xbox One is a close service where everyone everyone has to deal with the same guidelines/restrictions, unless you are EA.

This post isn't really about the "why" it's about people reactions. I say speak with your money, start a cause/campaign, don't wine like a baby and fork the money over anyway.
