Lets not forget the most important factor (for me at least), the price. It is 60% the retail price of other major DQ. That alone should make it the best selling DQ game. The casual appeal of the DS may even bring some new players.

it isn't usually credited that much in that respect..

when people say Japan here, they usually say FF or DQ are popular there..

A better question is how many carts will they be able to manufacture for week 1? They cant do a piddly 1.5m carts for release, thats not going to cut it.
