Forums - Nintendo - The WiiU name confusion

How often you see people complaining about gamepad/WiiU game not working on Wii because he thinks it is an add-on?

Always 26 10.32%

Never 160 63.49%

Few times 48 19.05%

Still trying to make game... 18 7.14%

Total:252

I'm going to draw a parallel with what i've been posting on my own sad little crush-story: if the girl liked me, she'd respond to me regardless of how poor my game has been. A solid game could move me along quicker, but in the absence of interest, the slickest game in the world isn't going to get the girl.

So is the case with Wii U. The problems are underlying, although if the console *were* appealing, it would be held back a bit by the name, but not to any important degree.

It was just one of many reasons to explain the exodus of wii gamers when people couldnt accept that tens of millions of them were just in it to enjoy the fad motion controls and wii fit board.

Im sure many did get confused, but not anywhere near enough to justify the significant decrease in gamers between the wii and wii U.

Or on people considering Nintendo games is true quality by being bug free and some Sony/MS being pretty turds (just graphics)...

Maybe people that have different opinion on quality would say nintendo games are well polished (bug free) turds (because they don't like the game itself.

We usually have difficult to understand why someone is dumb by not having the same taste as us.

no because PS3 was HD unlike the Wii. The Wii lost momentum long before the Wii U came out so it was clear the general public had moved on. Nintendo need the next big thing but it looks like many other companies are ahead of them with VR and AR.

Apparently you don't know the difference between the HD that the PS3 put out and true HD.

720P 1080P. That is HD. It's not false HD.

I literally don't see where you are going with this. Neither of us claimed that this problem would be the only or even the main reason why Wii U fails. In fact I don't see anyone in this thread claiming something like that.

Or I'm missing the joke and this was supposed to be a stereotypical Nintendo hater post.

Now I'm confused. I better not buy a Wii U right now.

Where I am going with this is that an educated consumer wouldn't buy the Wii U either.

I am not sure if you are one of the people who believes that "smarter" consumers would buy a Wii U, but it's something that is brought up commonly enough to address it.

What is a smart consumer?

A consumer buys what he needs and what is within his means. I don't think you can define a smart consumer by what he buys but rather how many times he buys the wrong things and needs to send them back. So not buying a product doesn't make consumers smarter or dumber. In reverse buying a thing doesn't make a consumer smarter or dumber.

Note that "wrong product" means in this case that the consumer wouldn't have bought it if he educated himself beforehand.

So I don't think there even exist such a thing as a smart or dumb consumer. There are just idiots and non idiots and people who do things efficiently and those who don't.

I think they should release a redesign and call it the Wii 2.

I mean... they did it with the 2DS.

Wii was already losing momentum that's true, after the release of Kinect, Nintendo only ever outsold the XBox 360 like once in NPD. Once that experience was copied/standard across all three consoles, it wasn't a big deal. And the Wii was still getting quite a bit of casual software support at that time, in fact Just Dance was just taking off (which is far bigger than another Metroid or even another 3D Mario for the casual crowd). So I don't buy that excuse.

To be honest though XBox One is an even worse name. Not only was that already what people referred to the original XBox as well (XBox 1), it sounds lesser than the XBox 360.

If you don't know the difference what would you assume is more powerful/better ... a Porsche 300 or a Porsche 1? Bad naming, but MS has mostly gotten away with it. Unfortunately the Wii U has about 4-5 other big problems that the XBox One doesn't have.

The PS3 often failed to reach 720p, just like the 360.

@vivster: I used quotation marks for a reason.

more often than not it's games were 720P AKA HD. Your "point" is seriously stretching. I'd give your arguement about 360p or 460i at a stetch. Not quite HD.

I never have but ik what you mean. Lots of people avoid it because why pay $299 for an add on for a Wii

XBOX ONE/Wii U/3DS/PC

Believe what you want, but the Wii U is most certainly not an HD version of the Wii.

because it doesn't output 1080p for all games right?
