I think the point here is the fact that games are still maturing. Two decades ago, games were developed thinking primary in children. With graphics evolving and the majority of the audience shifting to adults, games became more realistic (making the violence become more graphic) and start to approach more mature themes. The next thing is sex. Violence came first because it was already part of the games. It's a taboo that will eventually be broken.

What's with this crazy necro-bump??

* looks at Alby *

I know, but I had a reply to write to one of the posts I missed when it was new and now I stumbled upon, and making a new thread for it would have been both excessive, creating the N-th one on the same argument, and less meaningful, as people participating would have missed all the other points already made.
Unless I narrowed the scope of the new thread to just "sexual innuendo in Splatoon", that could have been entertaining, but maybe too hot and beyond my energies until this muggy weather ends.

I find that sexuality in a game is better than violence

It's much like asking why aren't there more games about eating food, about sleeping or about shitting in the toilet.

Very poor comparison.

And in a lot of games, you have Food elements included (FF15, all Tales of, star ocean, vanillaware games, etc...mostly japaneses games) or scenes where your hero sleep and something happen, or not (mostly in a lot of Rpg games).

And the subject here is not on games based mostly/ONLY on sex (that's Eroge for you), but some sex elements in games.

Sexuality in games is shit. The comparison between sex and violence as if they should be equal is ridiculous. The "underuse" of sex in movies and in games has almost nothing to do with religion or conservatives being against it. Sorry to break your bubble, but you aren't as radical and openminded as you think.

Of course a character can be sexy, but the term sexuality encompasses so much more than sexy looks.

And yet there's almost no value of sex in a video game. There's nothing you can do, it's completely uninteresting from a narrative as well as a gameplay perspective, just like it is in movies.
Sex is private (mostly). That's why in movies it's only used as a little spice. There's only a short meaningless sex scene in every movie except for perhaps in pretentious French movies where it's sometimes dragged out.

Love can certainly be interesting from a narrative perspective (love as in something that is distinctively separate from human sexuality), but people licking each other with their tongues or putting the cock in the pussy has no value whatsoever.

What are you gonna do with the sex, jerk off to a video game?

It's much like asking why aren't there more games about eating food, about sleeping or about shitting in the toilet.

Violence on the other hand is exciting from so many perspectives, both narrative and gameplay. No matter how much you may dislike violence in reality. Violence ties so much to our values and emotions, to fear, threat, justice, aggression, feelings, to society, to human history. Violence simply is in the core of human culture.

I'll give you one of my favorite games of all time that also happens to explores sex, Silent Hill 2.  In the game the character is haunted by memories of his dead wife.  We discover that the visions and monsters are reflections of his sexual frustration from time in the hospital watching her slowly die.  He couldn't have sex with his wife, began lusting after the nurses, and felt guilt over his yearnings due to his loyalty to her.  It was one of the most powerful narratives I ever experienced in a game because of how human James felt.  If the same story had been told and removed all the sexual elements he would have been a shallower and less sympathetic character.

Got it. This is your one Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free card.

Thx for the understanding, CGI!

On topic: each time sex in videogames is mentioned, it reminds me of one of my fondest gaming memories, when in Fallout 2 I went to bed with both the wife and the daughter of New Reno mobster boss Bishop in the same day.       ... Not to mention Duke Nukem's political uncorrectness.

I think sexual violence in games should not become normal.

Video games are mostly a guys fantasy and of such content exists on games.

It won't be see as art but for people to live out sick fantasies in a virtual reality

Sexual violence should never be encouraged, and violent sex fantasies between consentient adults always kept within the private sphere or in clearly labeled porn or depicted in a totally negative way in dramas, as rapists, stalkers and molesters, just like paedos, endlessly look for ambiguities to twist and turn into justifications for their behaviour, but "normal" or even bizarre but not violent sex should be fine in videogames aimed at adults.

Shitty or not, food and sex in videogames can make you millions, just look at Pokémons!!!

I find it strange that, when in a game you can kill 1000 persons it's ok, but when you can see two womens completly naked, it's something terrible...but this is in the real world the same

Killing people is something very distant from our usual routine. It doesn't relate to us like sex and that's why people don't get too offended with it. When people see sex in games, they can relate it to their lifes and can react to it in negative ways such as become embarassed or being repulsed by the uncanny valley effect. But IMO, that's something that will change once we get used to see it and starts to be just natural, because sex is a powerful narrative tool (if used in a good way). We get used to violence in movies and games ever since God knows when and, generally, it isn't even used as a nice narrative tool that has the potential to be.

Having too much of anything is always bad thing. That's all I have to say on the subject.
