Why can't Maxim write more than two sentences without swearing? I guess that makes them "hardcore"...

You have to understand that Maxim is not a legitimate review source. Just last month, on the Avril Lavigne issue, their music review department was called out twice for reviewing two CDs that weren't publicly available for them to hear, the new Black Crowes and Nas albums. They were called out by both parties because both albums were reviewed poorly without even a listen. Advance copies were not given out to the press because of pirating issues. I'll actually put good money on Maxim having not played Brawl yet and just wrote a review based on previews for the game. They're becomming notorious fo pulling shit like this. If you notice the kinds of games that get good scores in their mag, it's usually very testosterone driven sports and shooting games. They don't even usually review games as tame in material as Brawl. Reviews are written in Maxim for off the wall dialogue that is meant to get a chuckle out of people, nothing more. With that said, I thought the review was pretty funny, especially the first sentence.

Maxim should stop reviewing video games. This is far from a professional review. I mean knocking it because of obscurity? Like any video game world is known out of its main fanbase. You are trying to tell me everyone knows the characters in a game like Final Fantasy. This person obviously has a hate on by inserting all those F-bombs.
That article where the guy hadn't heard the CD before he reviewed it?
That guy should be fired, and they should get a whole new management team at that magazine. What a terrible ethics violation.

I like the apollo justice review, where the reviewer says you look like an idiot shouting into your nintendo DS, does he realise you can play it without shouting? in fact it's easier to play it without shouting. Besides from the Apollo justice review it is clear he hasn't played the game.
But we drooling fan boys/girls with our hard nipples love obscure characters! sheesh... people will never understand the gaming community...
"you've got yourself a video game that makes the nipples of fan boys automatically auger their way through their T-shirts"

For ensuing hilarity here's other video game related articles and reviews from Maxim, for those unfamiliar with how much they do not represent the norm. They're actually very spot on sometimes, but have a 30-40% chance of WTF coming from most gamers mouths on their general reviews. The best thing is, shovelware and really badly made titles get a zero from them usually, which is always a plus. You'll also notice some great niche titles have gotten fives from them:
