Zero Suit Samus is not the real Samus.

Samus needs to return to looking like this:

...instead of this:

It's like she transformed from her original intent to some kawaii abomination.

When it comes to great art for Samus specifically, there's a lot.  This one probably captures the Samus character best imo:

she looks awesome and that's not anime at all, but I know what you want. More realistic 

She looks way too young in those though, especially the first one where she looks like she's a teenager. Samus is at least in her early 30's. I also have never liked how they've changed her hair to being straight, since originally canonically wavy. I at least like the second picture better because she looks a little older, and looks like she might actually be fit, unlike the current frail-looking Samus. Samus is supposed to look like a blond Wonder Woman and her hair is a distinct product of it's time, when volume was an important seen as more attractive than it is now.

Getting hung up on wavy hair is silly, imo, since it is a more or less meta element.  It was there cause it was popular in *our* world, not the setting :P . 

The first one I always viewed as her being younger anyway.  But it's her character that I think it represents best.  Strong, determined, fearless.  The latter one I'm not as down with the tone of the character (more reflexive, not sure if that would fit her even in her thirties), more with the style of the art with its detail and sense of "weight."  Also, she's genetically altered, so they can always handwave visual anomolies :P Also, helmet hair. 

It is anime. The new art style was made to be the same as the Metroid manga that was running at the time, which they made canon with Fusion. And it's not just realistic. New Samus looks younger, frail-er, and has straight, banana yellow hair.

I don't care if it's realistic. That isn't Samus. Samus is amazonian. She was canonocally like 6ft before they turned her into this. I want Samus to turn back into the blond Wonder Woman in Iron Man's suit that she used to be.

You say she looks great, but that's not my problem. I'm not saying she doesn't look nicely designed or attractive; I'm saying she doesn't look like Samus anymore.

It's like saying that this:

...is how Wonder Woman is supposed to look. It's not. It's a random attractive girl with dark hair, dressed up in a Wonder Woman costume.

I don't think it's silly at all. It was a defining attribute to her character for over a decade. The reason why it was there doesn't matter. She canonically has big, wavy hair, and then suddenly she doesn't. It's not like Zelda where it's a bunch of different Links. The only explanation is that she's, for some rediculous reason, straightening her hair before exploring alien planets. That clearly makes no sence and completely goes against her character, so realistically there's no reason she should have a sudden change like that.

She went from being a 6 foot tall, visibally muscular, blonde and wavy hair woman in her thirties to a like 5'6'', super skinny, straight yellow haired woman who, while still in her thirties canonically, for some reason now looks like she's 20. It doesn't make any sense. And they can't hand wave the change, because she literally looks like a completely different character. They don't even wear the same cloths under the suit anymore. It bothers me because it completely betrays her character. And no offense, really, but it doesn't matter how young you viewed her. She isn't young at all. The first Metroid takes place in her like mid to high 20's. By Fusion, she's at least in her low 30's.

Yet somehow she looks like 10 years younger in Fusion, a game that takes place chronologically after Super.

Samus is dead, Other M killed her.

I can't see any coming back from that, it was an assassination of Kennedy proportions.

YES! An Alien Isolation style/Metroid Prime mix would be perfect!
