I'm surprised by how stable the frame-rate is. Given how strong a focus RAD had on graphics, i was expecting them to allow persistent drops in favor of additional visual flourishes (similar to Ryse).

It's a shame TO:1886 wasn't better refined in other areas, because on a technical level it's an absolute marvel. I'll probably buy it in a few weeks purely to stare at pretty stuff :p (though i'm still quite interested in the story too, just not enough to warrant a full price purchase).

I don't think the PS4 has much trouble with games below 1080p no matter how well the rest of the assets looks. The most drops you will find in 1080p games where they're pushing both visuals and pixels.

Yeah, but i was really expecting them to pull resources away from frame-rate stability as well as the resolution (AA aside). Think of all the extra particle effects they could have had at 24fps! :p

God dang it, people. Even in a performance analysis there's a debate about the game's length.

Or course, because it is easy to render a beautiful game at a solid 30fps when it is only 5 hours long...  ;)

This game isn't even 24fps? Pff, the game is totally not cinematic enough!

It's easy if the Devs are talented and they have a PS4 in their hands ;)    And, the game can last 8-15 hours, it depends on how you play the game.

So what's the verdict on game length from all of these reviewers? Because I haven't seen one validating the 8-15 hours claim.

''The final elephant in the room is the game length.  While we will be doing a Metatheory Podcast soon to talk about game length, I’ll state plainly that it took me about nine hours to finish The Order: 1886.  I didn’t rush, but I also didn’t waste any time, playing it on Medium difficulty.  You can expect roughly the same amount of gameplay.  That said, as my friend David Roberts said recently “it goes on as long as it needs to.”   It doesn’t overstay its welcome, and none of the content feels superfluous.  When every moment of a game feels meaningful, nine hours is the perfect length for an adventure / shooter game.''

Ok that's one on the low end of the 8-15 hour spectrum. So far I've seen 5-9 hours.

And "Sony's new flagship IP"? Ok

''Literally no game has ever looked this good. It’s strange to even write that, but The Order: 1886 raises the bar so far above its contemporaries that it stands in a class by itself. Joined by a soundtrack that perfects the mood, The Order is a cinematic masterpiece. If you want to show off your PlayStation 4 to your friends, this is the title to showcase.''

''I did want to take a moment to call out one area above all others — facial animations.  The Ready at Dawn team have created character faces that are simply astonishing.  When a game gives you hyper-realistic faces, it’s usually dead eyes and awkward movements that drop us right into the middle of the uncanny valley, but The Order crosses that valley with flying colors.  Sir Galahad, Sir Percival, Lady Igraine, and Knight’s Apprentice Lafayette look amazing, but that’s expected as they are the main characters, right?  Well, every other character in the game received a near equal amount of work as everyone in this game is CGI-quality.  I have never seen a game pay this much attention to its peripheral characters.  During the cinematic moments, the incredible graphical fidelity sucks you in and locks you there in a way that few games ever have.  Ready at Dawn better make some room on a shelf for some awards — The Order: 1886 is absolutely gorgeous.''

How to write yourself a digital foundry performance analysis before digital foundry does one:

"...Console version is locked at 30fps, here is the 7 minute-long youtube video showing "30" if you don't believe us
-Here is the screenshot comparison. Xbox version is running at 900p, while PS4 is 1080p. PC version is superior to both, we mean just look at that rabbit ear at the bottom-left corner of the picture, it clearly shows that a pixel is shaded differently due to superior SSAO
-While all versions come close together, Xbox offers a bit more consistent framerate at expense of 900p. Overall, PC once again offers superior experience due to higher resolution and 60FPS, provided you work at Digital Foundry and have latest CPU and 2xGTX 980 at expense of employer and don't mind the game stuttering, being bugged and having very lazily ported controls..."
