Forums - Gaming Discussion - Peter Molyneux: “I haven’t got a reputation in this industry any more”

*Sigh* People complain frequently about how the gaming media is paid off and frequently panders to developers. Then, when someone takes a major industry figure to task for making promises (and accepting money) for things they can't deliver, people say that he's being too mean?

so much this. Let the man accept responsibility and take this verbal lashing

He makes average to terrible games with 1/16 of the promise it had.

Yeh, so Populous, Syndicate, Black & White & Fable were average to terrible?

This guy puts himself out there too much, there are far worse in this industry lurking in the shadows...

He may have lost his way, but his input in video/computer gaming has been exceptional...

I actually applaud the interview for being aggressive. Peter's bs needs to stop lol

Molyneux doesn't deserve this. He is always over excited and promises things he can't deliver.

But.

The man is still responsible for some if my favorite games.

Some of his games are excellent if they were not overpromised to begin with.

In this case however, he took to kickstarter and for the shit he has put those people through alone, he should be put to task. How are you going to do your fans that way?

I'm solidly on Molyneaux's side here. The man works sixteen hours a day and has spent 50,000 hours being interviewed. This means he has spent literally nine years' worth of his life just being interviewed. At that rate, of course you're going to have some small whoopsies come out your mouth every once and again!

To think....who would've thought Fable would be the start of the downfall of this mans career? Not even Microsoft's money could fund his dreams. Even after all of that he took peoples pledges knowing he could not accomplish the goals. I sometimes wonder where his conscience is, but then again i've been worrying about that since before this incident recently. I am talking Fable era. Fable in itself is a game that really does not have a clue about what it is, nor where its going. I've played all of the mainline Fables...and I am still confused.

Crisis of identity is something you can say about all Peter Molyneux games. Like The Movies, which doesn't know if it wants to be a Hollywood tycoon or a movie-maker. But that doesn't prevent the game from being awesome.

I guess, but he sold Fable two as an innovative and challenging experience and pretty much was neither of the two. The game held my hand and had, I was not challenged (nor did I die) one of the most anticlimactic endings I have ever seen in a videogame. The story to me was  passable. The first fable was better and far more challenging, thats the funny part and half the reason why I listened to his babble. The game wasnt innovative at all and around this time I was playing Kotor 1 & 2 as well as Jade Empire on the Xbox. There was a base for comparison and around that time I was playing WPRG's on my Xbox and JRPG's primarily on my PS2 with stories far beyond his in value.

What a horrendous interview. I'm surprised the "journalist" didn't pull a knife on him or something. There's aggressive and then there's that. There's no way I would have continued the interview had I been in Molyneux's shoes. I'm utterly disgusted.

With these questions I'm surprised Moluneux didn't pull a knife on the journalist...

Peter might have overpromised and underdelivered on a lot of occations, but this is just being a pure asshole against him. You can ask people out on mistakes without being a dick.

He lied to people on kickstart and then just blamed kickstart by saying he should lie to con people into giving him money. How can anyone be, "solidly" on his side?

Then it isn't a matter of honesty but misplaced priorities. If he had only spent those nine years on game development instead, Fable would have had its goddamned acorn and none of this would ever have happened.
