Overpriced proprietary memory cards just about did it. It had a strong launch lineup. Now it's become the PSP2 with niche Japanese games out the ass. Granted even the PSP got two exclusive GTA games. Though truth be told, I expected sales to pick up in the West because of remote play.

Numerous reasons, really. But much of it tracks back to one thing: An overall lack of support.

I think Sony thought the Vita would sell itself. The Vita had almost no marketing, and while it had a fairly good launch lineup, support rapidly waned.

Also, (maybe I'm biased) It's hard to call the Vita a "failure" per se. Sure, it's sales are very low in the West compared to the 3DS. But in Japan, it's doing reasonably well. And I think SCE has probably made a profit on it, even if it's less than they would've liked.

Shoot, did I say it was a failure? I didn`t mean to imply that, but that it hasn`t as well as the 3DS or PSP. Whether it was or not is for another topic. I sort of feel the same in that Sony expected it to be a successful, somewhat (them being surprised at the PS4`s success). I did see a fair amount of advertisements from Sony on PS related stuff on the net, but as for TV/outside advertisement, I`m not so sure.

Haha, but I didn't mean to imply that you said it was a failure. But that's the kind of consensus that many commenters have in a thread like this. Same goes for those Wii U doom threads; it's not a failure either, it's just not what it should've/could've been.

The same plague that felled the Wii U. If you don't have enough games to play on a GAME console, your ass is grass.

Thing is, how can sales pick up due to Remote Play when there is no 4G Vita. I have a 3G Vita and an Xperia Z3. I have to have both of them with me to remote play at my leasure. Even more rediculous is the fact I can remote play via 4G on the Vita through the Z3 as a hotspot, but I can not do it directly on the device via the same 4G connection on the Z3.

This is why at a minimum Sony needs a 4G Vita with unlimited access to PSN. A Wifi only Vita is just about the most useless mobile device on the market today, and that is why sales are where they are. I don't get why I either have to have a Phone and a Vita, or a Phone/Bracket/DS4 to enjoy remote play. Just give me a Vita that can make calls, and use Remote Play, PS Now, and PS Vue. Why is this so damn hard?
