Numerous reasons, really. But much of it tracks back to one thing: An overall lack of support.

I think Sony thought the Vita would sell itself. The Vita had almost no marketing, and while it had a fairly good launch lineup, support rapidly waned.

Also, (maybe I'm biased) It's hard to call the Vita a "failure" per se. Sure, it's sales are very low in the West compared to the 3DS. But in Japan, it's doing reasonably well. And I think SCE has probably made a profit on it, even if it's less than they would've liked.

Shoot, did I say it was a failure? I didn`t mean to imply that, but that it hasn`t as well as the 3DS or PSP. Whether it was or not is for another topic. I sort of feel the same in that Sony expected it to be a successful, somewhat (them being surprised at the PS4`s success). I did see a fair amount of advertisements from Sony on PS related stuff on the net, but as for TV/outside advertisement, I`m not so sure.

Haha, but I didn't mean to imply that you said it was a failure. But that's the kind of consensus that many commenters have in a thread like this. Same goes for those Wii U doom threads; it's not a failure either, it's just not what it should've/could've been.
