Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One's next big move?

This is what happens when one man is starving and the other has his head in the clouds.

Sony caught MS with their pants down truth be told.

In order for Xbox to succeed it should distance itself from the MS name tag and pretend to be its own platform.
- Real exclusives
- A major distinguisher from the competition. In an odd twist of fate, make XBL free
- Proper price tag
- Don't know about the holo lens thing. Seems better suited as an educational tool. They need to do something different though!

Best thing Microsoft could do is get more exclusive games at this point. This year will probably be a lost cause (unless they have been keeping a lot of secrets). However, they can make some investments and get some good momentum and good will if they make a lot of really good announcements at e3...

Interesting post.

You know fully well that for Microsoft exclusive games don't mean adding something, but rather taking something away from someone else. That, of course, contradicts earning goodwill.

Basically, perfectly executed stealth trolling.

Microsoft already announced a huge feature comming to the XBO this fall. Windows 10 intergration is not something to over look. The ability to use universal apps on XBO could easily give it a major advantages over PS4. Both consoles only have 1 way to show market growth, and that is expanding functinallity.

The other big thing comming to XBO is Sling TV. This is a way for XBO owners to cut the cable box completely. This again is something that can not be over looked.

If Microsoft keeps working hard to get timed exclusives, build up their first party, and deliver on the games front they will be fine. Expanding the market needs to continue to be their focus. The best thing they can do is try to be more open than Sony. Keep letting any and all worth while software make its way to the system. Turn XBO into the SmartPhone of the TV, that is they way to greater success. This is true for both MS and Sony. They both have a chance to steal the home market, and use it to piggyback to mobile success.

Counterpoints:

PS4 will have Playstation Vue which is the big talk right now for cable cutters. Have you seen the Windows 8 universal apps? Talk about crap.

next big move for the xbox 1 it a other price cut

I agree Sony is in a much better position with Vue. I just posted about it here http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=7074846 . However, I do not see why that would stop MS. They can easily partner up with Walmart, Best Buy, Gamestop, and Dish to make the same thing Possible on XBO. Microsoft also has a lot more of their own stores, and the capital to expand rapidly.

As for Windows 8 Universal Apps, I have no experience with them. Do they work on XBO?

It's basically a kind of app that's compatible with the latest windows mobile and everything.  We are talking bottom of the barrel android games. If windows apps happen on the Xbox One it's going to be those. Maybe more indies will invest in windows mobiles as a result though, that would be nice. I like my windows mobile device, but am still using my Nexus 5 for the ecosystem.

Spread some of their cash around and bring new and ambitious devs on board, and also utilize the stable of IPs over at Rare that are laying dormant. If Rare itself isn't up to the task, then hire dev teams that are, a la Double Helix and what they were able to accomplish with the KI reboot.

wtf are you talking about??? Universal apps is probably one of the best thing about win8. App content and settings synchronized across all devices and when they are not free a one time fee for all platforms talk about awesome... The real issue is and has been the lack of legacy apps going universal not the other way around.... But win10 universal kernel and the way it will work for developers will cut that caveat greatly...

Are you talking about just games, or any and all apps? The thing I see being a bigger deal would be apps beyond gaming. IMO, MS already has all of the third party and indie -games- devs covered, if they want on the system they can be there. The thing they are missing is the quirky little stuff people use all the time, calculators, note pads, photo editors, caladers, alarms, etc. Plus the important stuff like banking apps, home security apps, word, excel, and things of that nature. That is the kind of stuff I hoped for when I heard the UA on W10 announcement.

I just don't see the motivation for people using those apps on a home console. I mean, they have them all at a touch of a fingertip on their phone, why use them in a much more cumbersome way using a controller or even Kinect. To me it seems so much more like a hassle and an inconvenience than an advantage.
