I don't buy all that. Sony is keeping quiet on the Vita front for a reason. This will most likely be their last handheld, so I'm not even sure why people keep talking about the Vita.

And unless you have good sources for digital sales for both Wii U and Vita I'm not going to comment on it. And besides, adding the half of almost nothing is still not very much.

Sony went on record with the 48% of all software sales on Vita are digital last year. Nintendo haven't unveiled digital sales for Wii U so you can't possibly get a good source given they control 100% of the digital market.

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/48-of-vita-software-sales-are-digital/0127955

Last tie we were given was over 10 games per console (this was for the US Market so we don't know overall), 10m consoles would be 100m software sales.

The reason for the lack of knowledge of European sales in particular is sales figures aren't released here, unless there are official announcements. And no disrespect to VG Chartz, but Europe is a much more complex territory to track than the US and so algorhythms and formulae are nowhere near as reliable.

However, here's a freaking awesome developer discussing Vita when they announced their next title was going to be Vita exclusive. (their last game was released on PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U and PSV).

"Honestly, Vita owners are the ****ing best," McQuinn said. "People rag on the Vita so much, and I think people who rag on the Vita don't understand, at least from a business perspective, the purchasing power of Vita owners. Vita owners are serious purchasers of games. It's an amazing system."

"The split in sales for Guacamelee between the Vita and the PS3 wasn't quite even, but it wasn't far off," McQuinn said. "I think that speaks to the strength of the Vita as a console to sell your game on because there are so many more PS3s than Vitas. For us, the sales on the Vita were really, really strong. It was a great SKU for us."That sentiment falls in line withSony's own pitch to developers from last year. And Guacamelee gave McQuinn all the evidence of that he needed.

As for why the system is perceived as an unattractive platform, McQuinn suggested it was more an issue of hardware numbers than software sales.

"If people don't see the Vita doing the same number of sales as the 3DS, then it's automatically a failure," McQuinn said. "But I think what people fail to understand is the purchasers of Vitas are very, very engaged game consumers. For them, the attach rate with games is very high. There might not be a lot of Vitas out there, but the people who do own Vitas are very serious consumers; they buy a lot of games."

Guess they thought Vita was more viable than Wii U?

Oh it's not ever going to be a system seller, but there is more than just niche Japanese games.

PS Vita is actually capable of running games in 720p. The PS TV outputs at 720p or 1080i (480p for PS1 games) There's no stretching as the aspect ratio is kept the same. The 2D stuff like Muramasa looks outstanding on it and a noticable step up from the Wii version.

Even if the TV output says 720p or 1080i the native resolution of Vita games are generally around 480p and 544p.

Assuming Muramasa is running at 544p it should look noticeably more crisp than the Wii version. 544p is 34% more pixels than 480p.

I don't know the ins and outs, however I understand the Vita is capable of running software at 720p native even though the handheld's display is 544p. However I'd presume the native resolution of most games is 544p. Sorry I wasn't trying to say the games were running in 720p though, I meant the end output is 720p or 1080i (much like how many 360/PS3 games didn't run in 720p) which means it isn't left to your TV's scaler.

That said, I hooked it up to my Asus 22" PC monitor last night, and every thing looks absolutely attrocious. I hope nothing comes of my Panasonic plasmas before there are some decent new TVs out there :(

End of year.

Ha. It's been a while since we had one of these threads.

WiiU has been chipping away at it, but I remember a lot of people thinking it would happen by end of 2013 and then end of 2014, like someone has already said in here.

Maybe 2015 will finally be the year.

Well obviously, the Wii U VC has much better Metroidvania games than Guacamelee. You know, Metroid and Castlevania... Besides, I think Guacamelee is also on Wii U.

10 games per console sounds a little extreme. Probably includes a lot of small indie games/free games. I mean I got Guacamelee for free, why would you buy it if they're giving it away for free?

It'll happen by the end of the year.

Probably by the end of the year, but not before E3.

Depends on if Nintendo unloads a price cut after the fiscal year rolls over.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

You know PSN has Symphony of the Night and Dracula X Chronicles right which are better than the Nintendo CastleVanias? If you're going to use that argument. Also freebies are not counted in "sales".

As I said earlier, you're clearly ignorant to the software available on PS Vita.

Why would a dev be happy about free downloads btw? Your arguments make no sense whatsoever, though it is fun seeing you constantly use your own arguments against yourself in various claims and comments.

Nobody is going to buy games that they give away for free.

Guacamelee is available on just about every platform.

But anyway, those 10 games per console are probably mostly small and cheap games. Steam has a better and cheaper library than Vita. I think it's safe to say there's not a single multi-million franchise available on the Vita.

I'm not ignorant of software on Vita. When I look at metacritic highscores I see mostly ports/remakes and barely any exclusives. Most people don't buy handhelds to play (old) console games.
