Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 outsold by PS3 this January in the US.

Another thought is the change in mindset of the HW manufacturers, none of them are very aggressive:

Sony: We don't need to pricecut, Sales are fine.
MS: We only pricecut during holidays
Nintendo: We never pricecut.

What?!  MS has been very aggressive this gen.  It just hasn't helped much outside of Nov/Dec.

First, they ditched their grand plans AS SOON AS preorder numbers came in.  Then, when sales dropped incredibly after the launch, they abandoned the plans they had for Kinect and dropped the price to $399, matching the PS4's.  They were also giving away their biggest games for free with a console purchase, when with the 360 they usully charged a premium in exchange for a custom consoles (something else they seem to have abandoned.)  Then, for the holidays they dropped the price by $50, and included free games with every SKU, for two months straight.  Then, when sales dropped after the holidays and stores had excess stock, they pretty much made $349 its new price "til further notice."  And they just recently dropped the Kinect bundle down to $449, too.  They say it won't last longer than two weeks, but we'll see.

January and June are not holidays... also, i think that a XBO pricedrop 299,99$ is very soon... Maybe even in March.

Still not the same as Sony with the PS3. An entire $100 pricecut. Or even 360 with a $50 pricecut on the console alone Forever.

Such a bad situation. The component costs of Xbox One is only going increase from this point on (with the exception of a die shrink which the PS4 would receive the same benefit) while the PS4 most expensive component has received huge price drops and will continue to do so, PS4 also has had at least one documented cost saving revision. I bet that Xbox One won't drop to $299.99 very soon, because the sooner they drop the price the sooner Sony PS4 will counter with a $299 price. They know Sony won't allow the price gap to stay that big for long, it's a lose/lose situation.
