Forums - Nintendo - better think twice about pirating on your 3DS, Nintendo is banning systems!

Yea makes sense! If you are gonna start pirating, you should be prepared to face things such as this! Although, I do wish companies would have a better method of dealing with piracy than just ban them cause imo, banning won't solve anything but rather encourage the pirate to never buy another game on that system ever again...

So instead of banning, imo, they should let the pirates keep the games they paid for (which they will get back anyway cause they are pirating the games) and let the pirates continue to be able to buy games from the companies' online stores and etc but make sure that the pirates can't play games online so that they can't use the hacks in order to win online matches. And since its clear that Nintendo and other companies can detect which systems are pirated, I don't think it will be too hard to do...

Cause I really see no point in banning them other than Nintendo themselves losing some sales... Yes, if you are pirating a system, there is a high chance that u won't be buying games but at the sametime, even if a small fraction of piraters buy games from time to time, that is still better than nothing

But oh well

Good. Pirates getting what they deserve

"Say what you want about Americans but we understand Capitalism. You buy yourself a product and you Get What You Pay For."

- Max Payne 3

A lot of pirates have two 3DS. One with firmware 4.1-4.5 for single player games and one with updated firmware for multiplayer games (which they buy retail.) The reason is that for a while the flash-cart that they used to pirate these games didn't support online, and when it did (through emulating firmware) each game would have to be included in a patch after say a week or two. Now this cart supports up to firmware 9.1, but most pirates still follow this method. I think Nintendo is more concerned with hackers than piracy to be honest. Cheats were a huge problem in Metroid Prime Hunters and Pokemon in the DS era.

Good to hear.

Pirating is a terrible thing, and the people who do it deserve the consequences.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Bout time Nintendo started doing something against pirates.

Good,

Penalize them but still allow them to buy games.

Also one must be pretty stupid to use ones main system as a "pirated game device".
Use a secondary system for something like that.

From the thread it seems as all one has to do is use a "header" from a retail game they purchase (any game) and they'll be safe.
