Forums - Sales Discussion - January 2015 NPD Thread! Hardware estimates up!

PS4 and X1 are in desperate need of top quality AAA, next gen exclusive games, some of which needs to be new IP.

We need this gens version of Gears, Uncharted, Bioshock, Elder Scrolls, Assassin's Creed & Mass Effect

Something AAA, something new and something that gets crticial acclaim and has mass appeal

I think the first major next gen exclusive coming this year is Batman: Arkham Knight. That should push a good number of last gen owners to upgrade.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Just need some big named games, we haven't really had any so far.. some bigger games are coming but we still haven't seen the likes of Fallout, Mass effect, uncharted etc etc...

I agree Celador. I'm not cool with these overdone remakes and despite being better than anything the big boys are putting out in terms of quality (gameplay), indie games just don't move next gen hardware the same especially as they are still on previous generation systems.

Fixed that nonsense for you.

Never underestimate the power of Playstation.

Never overestimate the accuracy of VGC numbers.

Welp the problem here is that is Sony not willing to price cut. They're trying to give more value for $400 with two digital games, which may work for core audience but it's time to go after the casuals.

Plus,USA isn't getting the good bundles like europeans. Why is the order not bundled in USA? will Bloodborne get a bundle?

I find it strange how all the doom mongers seem to conveniently ignore certain facts. Then again its not surprising being that that's how doom mongering works.

By January 2007 the PS3 was $600, by January 2008 it was $400= yoy sales increase.
By January 2014 the XB1 was $500, by January 2015 it was $350= yoy sales increase.

But why does it surprise some, or do some expect that the PS4, still selling at the same $400 launch price, should some how sell better yoy. Does that make any sense? what kinda logic precludes that? Last year the PS4s baseline was around 160k on flat months with no major software releases. Why does anyone expect things to be different now at the same price?

I'm not sure what to make of these numbers. I think consumer buying habits are changing.

The last few years we have seen November sell more consoles than December (or on par) when it used to be December the highest selling month. Now we are seeing bigger drop offs going into January. For Sony, January used to be a ~20% of Nov & Dec combined while Xbox usually see's a sharper drop after a more aggressively priced holiday.
This is why I made 400k PS4 300k X1 prediction. Turn out half of that.

Edit: Checking over the numbers I've noticed a steady increase in Nov & Dec (combined) to Jan drop offs. Start of the 7th gen for the xbox January it was about 15% to 20% of Nov & Dec sales, now it's steadily moved to below 10%. For PlayStation Jan was about 20% to 25% of Nov & Dec sales, it's steadily moved to below 15%.

I'm going to say holidays being much stronger is due to stronger Black Friday deals and weaker January sales over the years and rise of online shopping (people getting products much quicker rather waiting for the weekend or spare time to go and pick a console up from the shops).

We need to stop the doom and gloom comments because of 1 month of average results but look into why buying habits are changing.

As expected VGC figures for NA were completely wrong.

Congratz PS4.

So XOne and Wii-U already overtracked even with one week of sales still missing. Can't say i'm surprised really, especially with Wii-U(no reason why it would be up from last year). PS4 seems pretty accurate.

it is up from last year...

And quite a lot in percentage terms.

X1 is up 10 K and it is 150 cheaper, that's terrible.

Your posts in this thread are horrid.....These consoles sold way more then there predecessors, thus reached market saturation faster, of course ps4 would be down it is still 399 and is near 20 million sold......By this time ps3 had price cuts and so did 360, thus up more. All yuo doom mongers dont have a clue, ps4 would be way up had it seen a price drop. So many misinformed posters on this sit.e

You want to spread doom because your precious x1 is struggling....PS4 will outsell ps3 easy.

I also get a kick out of how US = world mentality. Other countries are growing for the console market, PS4 is selling way more in Middle east, europe. consoels are far from doomed, at least ps4 isnt.
