Animal Crossing U needs to have even more new features than NL had compared to its predecessors.

I hope Nintendo can make an extended miiverse functionality, so you can someway login to your village from your phone or from the browser. You have to be able to manage some things (not all) in your village much easier. This will also be good advertisement. As a working man I have big trouble getting in time to shops and getting all announcements. I also would want to have some kind of alarm on my phone that informs that Totakeke is performing.
If I could have it my way I would make Animal Crossing into Nintendos version of Facebook, a friendly, happy place where you can share your designs and furniture and talk to other Animal Crossers. It would be a continuation of Animal Crossing Plaza.

OT: I think the casual audience from the Wii is gone to mobile games and will be hard to get back. Also the japanese gamers that are a big part of the AC audience is lost. Sadly I think it will not sell more than 2 million units.

without a doubt! not only that, but i expect the title to move at least 1 million systems. Animal crossing is huge, bigger than what people give it credit. The key is Nintendo has to bring forth alot of innovation so people will see that its not just a new leaf port as city folk was to wild world.

Well, the original is from N64 but yes, it should outsell the gamecube game.

I think Animal crossing U will release late 2015 or early 2016.

There won't be an AC for the Wii U IMO. The producer of the series even said the series works better as a handheld game and while they were looking into a Wii U version it could end up on "another platform".

The other platform is the next Nintendo handheld, where this game would sell a lot more than it would on Wii U.

So I think that's a rather easy decision for Nintendo.

The Wii U is already getting Splatoon anyway from members of the AC team.

If it was coming from Wii U it would've been shown already too IMO. They've shown Zelda and other late 2015 games, but nothing on Animal Crossing, not even an announcement. Doesn't make sense.

The next Animal Crossing will be a launch window title for the next Nintendo handheld and will sell over 7.5 million WW, 3 million+ alone in Japan. It will be an evergreen title that sells as the system base grows. 

And that will be the smart move, AC on Wii U alone would sell maybe half that, putting it on the next handheld makes much more sense. 

I think it would, the install base for the series from what I can see is pretty huge and I'd sell my soul to be able to play a Wii U version, I'd hope if they do they add more options, more freedom and functionality, I could then die happy.
