Forums - Sony - Shuhei Yoshida "'Hates' Annualized Franchises"

Oh, obviously, that's why the PS2 struggled so much.

?¿ I´m talking about system sellers TODAY. Not 15 years ago...

You said a console struggles without them.  Those were your words, right?  Aim for clarity.  So, what's the difference?  You really think gaming now would completely tank if titles like Assassin's Creed and CoD released every two years instead?  You seriously believe that?  That's interesting.

Are you really trying to use sports games to negate what he's saying?  Seriously?  Games which are annual by necessity and generally easy to develop?  As opposed to franchises which have no actual need for annual entries and have to be rushed to fit schedules?

Do you really have no understanding of what he's really talking about here?

No. I'm using Buzz and SingStar to show that he's and hypocrite.

Sport franchises don't need to be yearly, specially in this day and age. A DLC roster update (which is what most of them are and why they're easy to develop) priced at $10-20 should be enough.

No, you're being purposefully pedantic.  You know he's talking about sequels and games with long development profiles because it's right in the article.  It's completely and totally clear exactly what he's talking about, where franchises are rushed to fit marketing schedules and released unfinished rather than suffer a delay that takes them out of the holiday window.  Of course, I'm sure you already understand that.

So he's just twisting things for GT5 to get a pass. It's fine as long as the franchise isn't yearly.

No, I believe if Xbo and wiiu had (or just xbo) every Ac, Cod and Fifa, but not ps4. Then ps4 would be pretty much doomed.

Sure, but that has little to do with what he said, which was that he hates that they happen at all.

"And that's why we made three SingStar and Buzz games per year instead of one until we burned them". He forgot to say.

Regarding the early days of PlayStation:

You compare a sportsgame with real frenchises like assassins creed and cod. They have to be updated every year dueto people wanting them to be updated, new players etc

Exactly how would them 2 games be proving his a hypocrite??. Clearly you understand what his saying but for some reason you just want to try finding some fault. His not talking about simple Singing/Sports/And gameshow type games that can have a new one made and player tested well within a year. His talking about more Complex type games that need a lot of testing and more time to make and instead of being giving that time they are being rushed to market.

And remember DLC on consoles only really started taking off in 2005-6, so yes that could be done now but back then that wasnt an option.

We have seen a few games recently that seemed to be rushed as they launched in a horrible state but these aren't released "annually", except AC:Unity. Which other games would be on that annual, rushed list?

The PS2 had other franchises at the time Fifa was huge so was GTA and Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid etc etc.

But its true what Goodnightmoon is saying today AC, CoD, Fifa, and GTA are the biggiest gaming franchises and i bet if a console had them games exclusive and the PS4 didnt have them well then the PS4 would be selling worse then the Vita is now and thats fact imo.

Which has nothing to do with this article at all.  And since when was GTA an annual release?

Well, if Ps4 hasn´t Call Of duty, Fifa and Assasin´s Creed every year, it would be behind PSVita, those are the real system sellers, and a console without them struggles.

The last Battlefield?

Which? 4? What I wanted to imply is that the list can't be very long as I don't see many games fitting into this.
