It seems me being brazilian got to radioshack more often than the americans in the thread. In my last usa trip in 2014 I bought things there.

I've been to the US quite a few times, but have NEVER seen a radioshack store in my life! In canada we have "The source" which use to be RadioShack Canada, only difference is that The Source is actually doing decent! Anyway yeah...

When I was in middle school one of my friends had a father who was a manager at our local Radioshack. I used to go there for headphones and their very small selection of video games just because he'd give me a discount. I remember one day he was telling me about how he's looking for a new job because he thinks Radioshack would close it's doors in the next year or two. This was 7 years ago lol So yeah, I'm surprised it took them that long.
My best memory at Radioshack was when I got my first Guitar Hero set back when that shit was still popular. It was a birthday present from my friend and her father.

The stores are pretty small and usually located in malls or in my case a small but fairly populated neighborhood.
I have one across the street from my house but it's been years since I've seen another one anywhere else.
Radioshack feels similar to Blockbuster to me. A place as kids everyone went, and then about 5 years ago or so no one I knew ever went there anymore. I am surprised they lasted this long.

i can't believe radioshack lasted this long. really this should have happened years ago. bestbuy isn't doing so well either and probably won't last more than a few more years too.
brick and mortar stores are going to have trouble competing against online especially in segments where the need to see the physical item isn't necessary. i always buy my clothes at a store because i want to try it on first. i always buy my groceries at a store because i want to pick out the best fruit and vegetables.
..but a movie is a movie no matter where i buy it and the box cover is the last thing that sells me on the purchase. i'd rather be online where i can watch a trailer to make my decision. a phone is a phone no matter where i buy it and the physical entity is only a minor part of my purchase decision. what i really want to know is what app compatibility/ect it has and for that i'm going to an online review that details it not some dumbass of a high school kid working at the store.

you may have seen one without realizing it if you've been to an American mall. most Radioshacks these days are very tiny little stores (I suppose to save on costs). They aren't like huge Best Buys or anything
this isn't surprising, Radioshack has been talked about going under for many many years now. the issue is they don't REALLY specialize in anything anymore. selling cell phones and random computer parts that people can buy for cheaper prices elsewhere makes zero sense. back in the day obviously Radioshack is famous for providing interesting self-buildable computer kids and a lot of interesting electronics kits for family's to work on or get for their kids. they haven't been innovative in a long time
they won't be missed in my eyes. you walk into a Radioshack for the last 10 years and you see the SAME exact items as you see everywhere else (nothing to peak interest) with high prices. that's a recipe for failure
