The racing genre is...

Better than ever 9 11.25%

Its been better but its still good 34 42.50%

I'm disappointed in it 33 41.25%

I'm back and what better way to return than with a thread.

Let's get right into it, I think the racing genre is a shell of its former self.  For me the best time to be a racing fan was when we had games like Burnout, Midnight Club, NFS Underground + Hot Pursuit (never played hot pursuit but I know people love it), PGR (the first will always be my favorite), Outrun (only played this a few times at my cousins, but I know people that swear by it), and many more, hell we even had F-Zero.

Fast forward to today and the only racers I want to play are Mario Kart, which was always around, and Forza Horizon.  I know Gran Turismo is a big one for a lot of people but personally I'm not a fan of those hardcore racing sims, they play too slow for me.  I'm really hoping for some new racing games to get my interest back.  Fyi last gen that game for me was Blur.

So what do you think of the racing genre?

Well, Project CARS is coming up this year... And that's it.

I'm not a big fan of realistic racing games myself, give me SEGA All-Stars Racing, Excitebots, F-Zero... And I'm happy.

Project CARS will tell us more.

"Its been better but its still good".

Regarding the big games, last year we had Mario Kart 8, Forza Horizon 2 and DriveClub. 3 big games with different racing purposes. Needless to say that MK8 and FH2 turned out pretty great; many even consider MK8 to be the best of the series. Regarding DriveClub, despite the initial mess, the game turned out to be pretty good; and if you stop to analyze it does many things amazingly well. Hell, that probably was my most played game last year.

This year we'll have PCars 2, a new Need for Speed and probably more unnanounced games.

EDIT: Forza 6 too! Forgot about it (and maybe, just maaaaaybe, Gran Turismo in some sort).

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Didn't know NFS was confirmed for 2015.  Also didn't realize they've been coming out with one every year, hopefully they come out with something really special with the extra year.

Do you guys remember when Gran Turismo was a two-disk game for the Playstation? We need a game that oozes content. One racing simulator to rule them all kind of game...

The racing genre is pretty good but we're really missing that F-Zero/Wipeout niche. We have kart racers at perhaps the best they've ever been with MK8 (and to a lesser extent, Sonic & SEGA Transformed), racing sims like Forza 5 and Driveclub turned out to be good, then we have arcade racers like Forza Horizon 2 and Need for Speed.

It could be better and more diverse overall, but whatever. Project CARS and Forza 6 are coming this year, so that's good.
