No we shouldn't and i think joeorc covered up the reasons why pretty nicely with his first post.

Take a read at this:

Here catch this:
Sony Online Entertainment has had a rough few years, with a handful of MMOs tied to expensive intellectual properties that failed to meet the grand financial expectation of the genre, including Star Wars Galaxies, DC Universe Online, and The Matrix Online. Last year, the company laid off employees in both the San Diego and Austin offices. In a company-wide email that followed the layoffs, then SOE president, now Daybreak president John Smedley said:

"I know most of the people we're laying off today. Some of them have been with us here since the beginning. None of them deserved this. Our goal as a company needs to be to make incredible games and grow again so we can bring our friends back."

And by the look's of it Sony is looking at if Playstation is not your priority, it will not be on our dime, to soak up the COST's...Investors were asking for cost cutting, well there you go/smirk have at it as an indie publisher of multi-platform games, since you really were not making playstation exclusives anyway!

Not really, dude. I was always wondering why Sony was even bothering with the online games in the first place when they've always risked so much costs on things they cannot always control. They need to give that up to someone else.

I guess there is logic behind this sale. I thought it was just a desperate move. Anyone knows how much it was sold for?

While Sony cut's here, they increase more profit building products:

Sony UK Technology Centre (UKTEC), a world-leading manufacturer of professional and broadcast camera systems, has confirmed it will be increasing from18,000 units to 80,000 units per week to cope with the expected level of demand of the next-generation Raspberry Pi 2, which has been launched world-wide today.

Cut 1000 jobs, while only having to increase by 30 but increase sales of units from 18,000 units / week to now over 80,000 + units/week

Its even a generic computing platform at that.. with production costs really low its bound to shift some good profit due to size, weight and package requirements being so cheap to produce.

SOE =/= Sony's gaming bussiness

Sony always let pretty clear that SOE wasn't an internal studio like ND,Santa monica ou japan studio.

It was more like a separated division or part of another division. It kind of makes sense to sony sell SOE.

They have their own machine with it's own gaming division and right now is one of the only divisions sony have that can be profitable.SOE was PC focused with PC-oriented games and sony wants to focus on PS4.

Who knows other than the deal makers at both companies, hell it could have only been in the 10's of millions, who knows or it could be in the sale of upwards of in the hundreds of millions or even 2 or 3 billion, it depends on what someone is willing to offer or pay.

I would say in my opinion less than 500 million but not larger than 2 billion, I would not be very surprised if it was more than that though, it depends on how the company that wants to buy it is willing to part with such cash.

It was mainly for Sony itself, and most likely for the playstation section only getting the benefit of more focus on it as a viable investment increase where it makes further increase chance to increase profit without much further risk.

And pretty much Profit value is the main priority along with dividend's to get doled out to investor's again in short order is another on the list priority to be placed at the Top.

We don't know for sure. We might hear something about it from Sony's quarterly earnings. Either way, everybody wins in this. Daybreak Studios (formally SOE) gets to do their own thing while Sony can consolidate their gaming efforts to Playstation.

Potentially. All I would say is to be weary over the next year or two. PS4 sales alone won't keep them afloat, and the rest of their markets are doing mediocre to bad.
