I have an outlandish theory on what's happening. I think Sony wants to market the bargain consumers. You know the Slickdeals.net customers to combat the Xbox One deals; however, I don't think they want these deals heavily publicized as they don't want to devalue the PS4 to the masses. As long as they are selling enough to this target, which appears to work, it's is getting them free publicity/advertisment on pages like Slickdeals/Fatwallet/etc.
This oddity seems too inconsistent to be random.
