Forums - Gaming - The extra mile...

I guess that I have different standards than most people on here. I don't believe any game really ever went the extra mile that I've played and I played alot. Some have went the extra inch or more but never a mile.

If I said I wanted an adventure in outer space where I can explore and you gave me an actual galaxy to explore or get lost in then that would be going the extra mile. Giving a game a little more content than I expected or free dlc is not an extra mile. That's a minute difference.

Sure, there's plenty of great or impressive games out there but I expect a great game when I pay money for it. Doing more than expected is really going the extra mile.

Super Mario 3D World. After beating the main story, you get Rosalina and 3 more worlds to do, and champion`s road. Now that`s going the extra mile. : )

I'll agree with this. I still haven't beaten champion's road. I've lost countless lives to it though.

They're pretty rare these days. Our expectations increase each time a dev tries a little harder. That's probably why I've felt every GTA was a letdown after San Andreas. I simply expect that there will be more to do with each instalment.

Final Fantasy XIV:ARR

the original was a flop, and then they (SE) rebuild it and it became a critical success and a fun Final Fantasy game.

I`ve only done it once, but when I did, I sure did feel like a champion!

Dragon Age Inquisition is the most recent for me. Completely redeemed what BioWare did with DA2 and is easily my GoTY for 2014.

I've never played a DA game. So I should skip the second one?

I enjoyed it, but it had issues that I see as unacceptable.  Limited customization of party members being one thing.  Also they had like six dungeon maps that they rehashed over and over.  For example, lets say to enter a cave.  You will notice enemy A here and enemy B there, some traps, and a few blocked paths.  Then you go to another cave in a totally different area and it is layed out EXACTLY the same.  The only difference is now enemy A is here and enemy C is there, traps are moved around, and the previous path is blocked while the other path is now open to create the illusion that it is a different cave map.

Also compared to Origins and Inquisition, the plot pales in comparison.  The game isn't HORRIBLE, it was just obviously rushed and could have been so much better.  So yes, if you were to skip a DA game, that would be the one to skip.  If you want to know the story behind Kirkwall and how the mage rebellion in Inquisition came to be however, check it out.

Burnout paradise, the dlc, both paid and free expanded that game above and beyond what it originally shipped as.

This is a great example.  It received phenomenal support.

Diablo III Ultimate Evil Edition had suprisingly a lot of content!
