Forums - Microsoft Discussion - When will we see an actual new IP made by MS?

When?!?!

Before E3 11 4.10%

@ E3 82 30.60%

After E3 12 4.48%

Never, enjoy HaloforzaGea... 163 60.82%

We did see a new IP made by an inhouse Microsoft game studio, Project Spark ...

Oh, you meant a new AAA IP created by an inhouse Microsoft game studio. In that case never ...

Personally I don't really get the point of this thread. With the stipulations the OP specified, Sony has only two of these games out so far this gen and Nintendo one. It's not like any of the companies have been bastions of internal originality this generation.

Sure, the other two aren't doing much better in that regard. I can agree with that, I'm pretty sure MS will show off a new IP made by them this year and wanted to see when people think it will be shown and by who.

They are releasing Screamride and Phantom dust this year

Are you telling me that Max Payne, MGS and Splinter Cell follows Sony game philosophy that started in 2007? Get out of here STAGE.

You could say the same about Sony, since the beginning of 7th gen they been looking for a Halo killer with no success. Now they tried a Forza killer and they miserably failed.

Max Payne, MGS and Splinter Cell are not what I am talking about. I am talking about the companies style. Almost every AAA they make has a distinct cinematic quality to it.

As for Halo....Sony has given up on trying to find another Halo. They need to focus on being Sony. Only then will Microsoft be forced to give chase.

P.S.

MS bought Halo...so there is nothing there to attribute to their creativity.

Max Payne, MGS and Splinter Cell were the cinematic kings before it was a hip thing between gaming fans.

MS made Halo.

Until MS bought Bungie, the latter didn'thave a clear idea on how to give direction to their tech demo.

MS gave Bungie story, gameplay and a new trend to set on the industry: high production value.

Screamride is made by Frontier and Phantom Dust isn't a new IP (although it minds well be one xD).

My mistake about Phantom dust. My bad.

Microsoft owns Frontier? If we don't count them I don't see why Naughty Dog or Monolith count as 1st party

They don't own Frontier, but they probably should. They've made a lot of games for MS like Zoo Tycoon and Kinectimals.

Any insight, style, or work Microsoft themselves put into the original Halo or the work they have done to make it the juggernaut franchise it is today, is irrelevant. They bought Bungie so they get no credit.

Of course, Sony also bought Naughty Dog, but Sony on the other hand does get credit for applying their "style" to Naughty Dog games (even though the ND games are pretty much the only Sony games that follow this "style", which would suggest it's more ND's style than Sony's style, and cinematic styled games were around before ND starting churning out Uncharted games, which would make it more of an industry shift than ND's style) and making ND games big, just because um you know, reasons.

That's the gist of the response you'll get (minus the stuff about Sony's "style" actually just being Naughty Dog following an industry trend).

I don't count that as a mistake. And I don't apologize for that. I blame wiki

Dude....

MS didn't give bungie story. Bungie had the story fleshed out before they were even purchased by MS.

As for all of the cinematic games you mentioned, none of them are the same. They all have a distinct quality about them just like Sony.
