Max Payne, MGS and Splinter Cell were the cinematic kings before it was a hip thing between gaming fans.

MS made Halo.

Until MS bought Bungie, the latter didn'thave a clear idea on how to give direction to their tech demo.

MS gave Bungie story, gameplay and a new trend to set on the industry: high production value.

Any insight, style, or work Microsoft themselves put into the original Halo or the work they have done to make it the juggernaut franchise it is today, is irrelevant. They bought Bungie so they get no credit.

Of course, Sony also bought Naughty Dog, but Sony on the other hand does get credit for applying their "style" to Naughty Dog games (even though the ND games are pretty much the only Sony games that follow this "style", which would suggest it's more ND's style than Sony's style, and cinematic styled games were around before ND starting churning out Uncharted games, which would make it more of an industry shift than ND's style) and making ND games big, just because um you know, reasons.

That's the gist of the response you'll get (minus the stuff about Sony's "style" actually just being Naughty Dog following an industry trend).
