But the Mojang situation was spending money on a guaranteed successful IP.

Nah, not really. Kinect Sports games were really good and made better use of the motion sensor than Wii Sports did.

They could've made 10 GTA V scaled games ($256 million) and none of them would've been successful? Especially seeing as Minecraft will always be on their platform regardless to whether they purchased it or not.
