Nahh, Nintendo shouldn't waste their money on Sonic at all. Nintendo already has their key platformer and they have done veryyy well to keep him alive and feeling fresh! Heck, both Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2 has 97 meta, Nintendo doesn't need sonic at all nor do they need another platformer.

If Nintendo wants to buy anything, they should just buy Altus and leave the rest to die

I'd be inclined to agree with this if I thought the Alien and Bayonetta IPs weren't worth purchasing. Other than that, I pretty much agree that Atlus is the only major thing SEGA has to offer.

Sega has so many great franchises other than Atlus and Platinum games

Sonic The Hedgehog
Phantasy Star
Virtua Fighter
Total War
Valkyria Chornicles
Puyo Puyo
Shining
Shinobi
Yakuza

I didn't know so many people disliked the Sonic games. I feel a bit surprised to be hones. The first three games in the series I have nothing but love for, they are great platformers, and especially the 2nd one.

On topic, I believe that Nintendo could actually turn this into a successful franchise again, but as other have stated Nintendo doesn't really need it.

I think that MS would benefit more from a purchase, they would have a pretty strong IP for a platformer, most people know of Sonic since before. But if MS could make Sonic good or not I don't know. But perhaps Rare could work on both Banjo and Sonic.

Sony also don't really need Sonic, but I think they could do a good job with the franchise as well.

Sonic definitely has a strong brand awareness. My mother surprised me the other day saying that a guy with spiked hair on the back of his head "looked like Sonic".

I would love if Nintendo got the rights to Sonic because it would finally mean more good Sonic games. But I think Sonic is worth too much for Sega to sell.

Some people think SEGA should get back into manufacturing hardware and make a Dreamcast 20

Sonic will be a perfect fit for SEGA's new mobile strategy. Sega is not in that much trouble that they need to sell the IP, and since most kids play mobile games today, it can thrive in a Jungle Run type scenario.

While I don't know if it should just be to make 2D platformers, I do think Sonic could flourish in the right hands. Sega has proven to be downright incompetent when making most of their games, so buying up the rights and maybe plucking a bit of the talent from Sega would be a good move from Nintendo. Imagine the good things that Sonic has given us over the last several years but with a Nintendo-level of polish and quality control.

To be honest, the only good console Sonic games out there are the Genesis games, Sonic CD, maybe SA1, Colors and Generations! The others are simply just average ( SA2, Heroes, Lost World) or just plain crap ( Shadow, Sonic 06, Secret Rings)!

Sonic Heroes is average? You've got to be kidding me! :(

I don't think Sega will let go of Sonic - too profitable on mobile.

Here's sonic dash on Android. It has at least 10 million downloads. Sonic dash on iTunes has 350K reviews, so probably similar download numbers. All those people are making ingame purchases. This game is basically a clone of other runner games on mobile with Sonic assets thrown in there. Probably doesn't cost a lot to make and makes a lot of money in return.

Sonic Heroes was that game where I remember falling through floors, bad voice acting, frustrating as hell special stages (to unlock the reeeaaalll ending) ... but at least it didn't have "knuckles stages" like SA2 or "stupid mech stages."  It was a decent game that had problems.  This basically describes all of the better-than-average Sonic games.  We only think SA1 is good because of context - nowadays it's clunky and has camera and control issues, but back then it was all we had, 3D Sonic-wise.

I'd say that there the Genesis games were great, Generations/Colors were good (with some flaws, but they actually learned from the past), SA1/2/Lost World, Heroes were all average (good with major flaws), and the rest are just bad.

Sonic Boom vs. Sonic '06 for worst Sonic game!  ... it's Sonic '06.  Boom was just a glitchy disappointment.

Eh.. I appreciate the game's presentation and the story to some extent, but the gameplay suffers from annoying controls and some camera issues! I'm sure a Sonic Heroes sequel that fixes those issues could actually be good!

Sonic on ps3 crossed a million on ps3 recently. Make a proper one exclusive to ps4. That's their best bet for quality plus good sales.
