LOL, all this quibbling over who is hardcore. The sooner Nintendo stops wasting time catering to teens & adults completely the better - they purely need to maintain their steel grip on the family-friendly video games market space.

Non existent on the wii u, gamecube and n64.....

The mainstream popular console always have the better hold of the family friendly games market. (SNES, Playstation, PS2, Wii, PS3, 360)

Hardcore gamers has been always a minoryty , I think WiiU is the one with less casual ratio of the 3, I know tons of people buying a ps4 for Cod and Fifa.... Problem of WiiU is marketing, most of the people though WiiU was a Wii tablet for 2 years, they don´t even notice that Nintendo has a new and more powerfull console on the market.

As a nintendo gamer I can tell you that nintendo Games are better when they are trying to push it... so push it nintendo push it...

I agree. While many think that the casual market has completely moved to smartphone gaming, there is still a large market for such people and most don't mind buying a console to just play Just Dance every single year.

They will buy it on their 6 year old wii's, just check the sales. Anyway that franchise is nosediving down, across all platforms there is no substantial market market to be gained through this type of game

People people, this has nothing to do with abandon. They are focusing on all audiences. The reason why the Wii U is selling so low is for 3 reasons

1: Nintendo haters and so called gritty gamers as i call them dont buy a Wii U because they are just simply not interested in there games, they want some FPS game or COD or idk assassins creed wich is for mature people, and mature is cool because thats how they think. Personally we all know they know too little about Wii U's library of games.

2: The so called casual audience has gone over to mobile games or just dont game much anymore. but i really dont think gaming is dead, quite the opposite i think its just gonna grow. Especially now that more and more people are on the internet they find out about gaming. Nintendo is like a cult classic. They do everything in quality and you know you gonna have fun playing nintendo games.

how about because in observing the games lists for all three machines people find that nintendo's list is woefully short in comparison to the lists of the other two companies especially moving forwards into 2015 and beyond?

and that's not even mentioning the additional features the other 2 provide

First off im not critizing the other consoles and there audience, im talking about the audiences like people who mostly like gritty games, and there are a plenty of nintendo haters out there . I seen it. Also Wii U's library is really good, ps4 and xbox one has hardly any good quality first party titles, and if they do they have done a bad job making them noticeable. Saying that the Wii U library is lacking is ignorant. There only exist different opinions and taste towards games.

And you apparently know hardly anything about the PS4s or X1s library if you think that the people opting for one of those instead of a Wii U are Nintendo haters and only want "some FPS game or COD or idk assassins creed wich is for mature people, and mature is cool because thats how they think", cause believe it or not, most gamers are not 17 year old teenagers that care more about image than about what they actually enjoy.

Im sorry but i have no clue what you just said made any real sense towards what i said. Ps4's and xbox one library are not great at the moment, because thats my personal taste. I think many people agree with me on this, but ik for a fact that MANY people prefer Ps4's and xbox one library over the Wii U's because they like that type of games more, and i see that xbox one and ps4 does way more global marketing, but marketing is really really expensive. Also i know there exist quite alot of nintendo haters out there that want maybe them to go third party or just hate the company and the fanbase. Myself im only talking about those and the COD fans in my previous post. I  know alot of ps4 and xbox owners do not always like gritty games, and i wasn't talking about them either, and last but not least the thing about my image was just really unnecessary!

To get that lightning in a bottle again Nintendo will have to do something new that appeals to those blue ocean types. Wii Sports again will not make people spend $300 on a system. Those people are now on phones or tablets so I don't envy Nintendo in trying to figure out what would pull those folks away from $1 to free games at this point.

Exactly, blue ocean strategy would need a powerful gimmick like VR, but it would also need to be social and affordable for it to match the replicate big sales. I don't think VR is either of those things.

By family-friendly I'm not talking about a console for the whole family, but a "safe" console. I might be wrong on this, but the strategy here seems to be kids start off with a Nintendo console and a handheld, moving on to cooler pastures later. Most will grow out of Nintendo, but there are always more kids to sell to.

I disagree. The hardcore are the segment the Wii U has. Its the casuals that ditch it. The bro's were never with them on this or last gen.

The Madden/COD bros were never really with Nintendo ever though.

The fact is the N64 sold only 32 million, the GC 22 million, but the Wii sold 100 million by focusing on its new audience. Now that Nintendo is trying to go back to the audience that quit buying Nintendo consoles the results are obvious: Wii U is selling worse than the Dreamcast and almost the Vita.

Did they really go back to that audience? It seemed like they gave a half-assed effort in order to appeal to that crowd but ended up appealing to no one.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Alot of hardcore gamers own more than one console.
