Forums - Sales - PS4 and X1 shipped nearly 30 million consoles at the end of 2014 according to AMD

Yep, if those numbers are accurate, XBO is definitely overtracked. Sony probably shipped 19M-19.5M LTD by the end of last year. This leaves less than 10.5M-11M SHIPPED for XBO. VGC has it at ~10.8M SOLD. So, probably 500K-1M overtracked.

So many absolutes being used here:
1. It's an absolute that sony announced it sold 18.5 million. - Probably true or accurate.
2. It's an absolute that AMD announced "nearly" 30 million. - Whatever nearly means
3. It's impossible for there only to be 500k consoles on the shelves. - I guess most people have no idea of stocking levels on Jan 1 at most retailers. Based on the reports, you couldn't find a PS4 in europe for 2 weeks after the holidays.
4. XB1 therefore is overtracked. - So, when we add fuzzy math of #2 and minus 1 we can only achieve #3?

And people here complain about the accuracy of the numbers on VGchartz?

Quite a bit of stretching in this post.  Are we really going to act like we don't know the meaning of nearly?  Really?  It means the exact same thing if they had said "almost 30M."  It's close to 30M, but not quite there.  No one EVER says nearly 30M if they mean its over 30M.

Sony shipped ~19m.

So MS shipped at less than 11 million... seems right.

I have a feeling X1 is overtracked by about 2 million and the Wii U overtracked by about half of million

That's almost a guarantee at this point if we're considering at US to ROW ratio.

Xbone ROW VGC sales estimates are WAY too high.

As a side note, the PS4 shipped 13.5m by the end of September. In my estimates, SONY shipped around 7m in the holidays, putting total shipped numbers at 20.5m by the end of December.

The Xbone probably hit 9m shipped and sold 8 - 8.5m to consumers.

Xbone sold 10 million at end of 2014 IMO.

A bit more than my 9.8m prediction.

Still too high.

At 10m sold, Xbone NA sales would make up 68% of its total sales, which is the same ratio as the 360. Does that make sense to you, especially considering the Xbone is much more unpopular in every country than the 360 and that the US was the only area where Xbone got insane deals?

Xbone is at 8 - 9m sold (Probably closer to 8).

Wow, so the Xbox One is overtracked. Must be nearly 2-1 world wide. This could also mean the PS4 has already outsold both the Wii U and Xbox One combined. Though it's still unlikely.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

USA + UK + France + Germany + Japan + China is more than 8.5M sold...

But yes, other European countries + the rest of the wold are probably too high.

I think it's 10.5M-11M shipped and more than 500K on the shelves.

EDIT: haha, ignore that, it was based on AMD's confusion between shipped and sold through.

There are some perfectly valid assumptions being made here. First, these numbers are likely through Jan 4th, as with Sony's last report. Second, AMD's reported numbers are definitely ball park accurate so it doesn't make sense to consider these numbers with some significant error.

For the sake of giving VGC and XOne the benefit of the doubt, let's say the number is 30m. We know the PS4 sold through 18.5m, so shipped number might be 19.5m (this seems likely as Sony would have probably prefered to report a 20m figure if it had reached it in sold or shipped). Assuming same shipped/sold gap for XOne then we get 9.5m sold through. Even a significant error would give XOne 10m max sold through (going by speculation of AMD's number), but this would put combined shipments minus sold though at less than one million, which is unlikely.

So about a 1.5m overtracked, if math is on my side.

Yup, or probably best to say a range of 1-1.5m. Again, going by this report (I have to emphasize it as some people may get itchy)
