How are so many people saying Melee? I love it too but it is so broken and unbalanced compared to the Wii U, which has a better roster, better stages, and more features that make it so fun. I guess it's nostalgia.

nostalgia is a powerful thing

Sure, nostalgia is part of the reason why I prefer Melee over Wii U, but I really liked the adventure and break-the-targets modes and was really disappointed with smash-tour and the new target blast mode. I also didn't really care for most of the new stages and went back to the old ones pretty fast.

Timing is part of it. I played Melee for well over  ahundred hours with friends back in 2001-2003 era.  SSB4U I have played a few hours and while it is fun and I respect the roster, I doubt I'll come close to the play time I did on Melee.

Honestly, Brawl. I don't like how Melee and 64 play, and I just feel like there's something a little off in Wii U.

I don't like SSB that much, but the subspace emissary I did.

Well, of course it won't be the whole reason. Everybody likes different things which is perfectly fine. I know nostalgia can be a tipping point too though. I'm definitely nostalgia blind at times. Trying to break free of it is difficult. My young memories, I can't just let them go

Me neither. To wallow in nostalgia is simply too much fun at times :)

Mine would be SSB4 cause it has tons of character customization and also gets rid of some exploits and some nonsense like ice climbers grab

Better roster with all those clones, better stages where you have to pay attention to not fall in the transitions, no adventure mode, no target mode, no platform mode. Yeah, I guess is the nostalgia.

Yeah because Melee had NO clones or transition stages whatsoever. I'll give you the rest, but I would trade all of them for 8-player smash alone, let alone the other cool features.
