Forums - Nintendo - Idea that would make Nintendo $1Billion

Also, why do people keep saying that Nintendo is doing fine financially? Haven't they been in the red for past like 3 years? Am I missing something here?

Nintendo Current Assets is just under 10 Billion $$$ USD. 8 Billion of which is in Cash and securities.

Last fiscal year Nintendo reported loss 225 Million dollars but their actual comprehensive income is net gain of 174 million.

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2014/annual1403e.pdf

Foreign currency translation adjustment was 350 million.

In other word Nintendo has so much cash that they have to invest the money and they are at the mercy of fluctuation in the stock market. Most of the losses are from foreign currency gain and loss. But sales have decrease considerably and Nintendo does have major problem that must be address.

If investor don't see improvement soon their will be a change of management and they will demand to see nintendo software on smart phone and Tablet.

They don't need the money right now. And amiibos are definitely going to get them to a billion.

Well that and EA already has the rights to the Star Wars games, so I'd assume Nintendo wouldn't be allowed to use that either.

Still it'd be worth it just for the rights to Marvel games. Nintendo doesn't really need Mickey and co. ... they already have Mario and Pikachu and Donkey Kong and Kirby. But Marvel? Hell yeah, that could be a game changer for them.

Would be good for Nintendo, but still a terrible move for Disney.

Just by taking Marvel you rip into Disney Infinity, which is heavily geared to the Marvel Universe this time.

Well I assume Disney would still be allowed to do whatever they want with Disney Infinity.

Nintendo would just get ancilliary rights to make additional games based on those IP, which really Disney doesn't use. The Avengers really didn't get a major game release, nor has Iron Man, the Spider-Man games have been crappy for ages, and there wasn't a major game for X-Men in a long time either.

they should make a deal with disney... nintendo gets the game licenses form diseny and disney the movie right from nintendo.

If that means Nintendo would get access to Marvel IP too ... that would be a huge win for Nintendo and a no-brainer.

Disney+Pixar+Marvel+Star Wars, would give them a ton of games to make.

Plus you would be asking Disney to limit their Disney/Pixar/Marvel and Starwars licenses to Nintendo consoles only.

It would be a disaster for Disney. What do you do, say Disney Infinity 3.0 is WiiU only and no longer on PlayStation and XBox?

Or do you only mean Nintendo could choose to make some games with those licenses while Disney keeps doing what they are doing? In that case Nintendo would be stretched incredibly thin and not making their own IP and/or new IP.

Not just Wii U but Wii U+3DS+Nintendo's next-gen devices. I do agree tho, Nintendo can't handle supporting all those franchises while making their own as well.

Where does Nintendo get the resources to make these games?

Do they begin shelving their own IP to give their resources to Disney IP?

I just don't see how this would be a good move for either side to be honest.

Never knew they owned a big sports team.

Back to the Mariner's discussion.

With that $5.9M they made in 2012, I am not even sure if that includes jersey sales.

Also along with that it doesn't even include TV deals they make as with basically any major sports team the TV business is separate from the team itself. Their last deal was for $460M over the course of 10 years.

I will have to check, but I know when they were talks for a new deal with DirectTV in 2013 they were in line to get a new deal for around $2B or so over the course of 17 years.

Why in the hell would you give that stuff up?

Oh yeah, I even tried to get their Seattle Mariners branded DS Lite.

Haven't checked to see if they sell 3DS at the stadium though, but considering I live on the opposite end of the country it isn't very easy.

In said scenario, I'd probably turn to Next Level Games, and partner one other US/Euro studio into making nothing but Marvel games. Maybe even NST as well (what the hell are they doing anyway aside from eShop Mario Vs. DK games?) with strict oversight from Nintendo to ensure that all the games are of high quality.

I'd rather just pay for some exclusive titles and not worry from that point on. Let Nintendo focus all their attention on their own IP rather than overseeing those of other companies. That or spend that extra focus on creating new IP that they would own themselves, but hey, that's just me.
