Forums - Nintendo - Idea that would make Nintendo $1Billion

Not sure about this, but does the fact that the Mariners generate $210M in revenue a year mean that Nintendo made that much money per year? I remember there was confusion during Nintendo's last financial results between their revenue and their profit. Is it also $210M in profit?

$210M is what they brought in before paying payroll and everything else. Profit is nowhere near that number.

Also, why do people keep saying that Nintendo is doing fine financially? Haven't they been in the red for past like 3 years? Am I missing something here?

They have a ton of cash+assets with no debt,  that's what they mean by they are fine financially. Selling the Marines doesn't help them become profitable.

they should make a deal with disney... nintendo gets the game licenses form diseny and disney the movie right from nintendo.

If that means Nintendo would get access to Marvel IP too ... that would be a huge win for Nintendo and a no-brainer.

Disney+Pixar+Marvel+Star Wars, would give them a ton of games to make.

Plus you would be asking Disney to limit their Disney/Pixar/Marvel and Starwars licenses to Nintendo consoles only.

It would be a disaster for Disney. What do you do, say Disney Infinity 3.0 is WiiU only and no longer on PlayStation and XBox?

Or do you only mean Nintendo could choose to make some games with those licenses while Disney keeps doing what they are doing? In that case Nintendo would be stretched incredibly thin and not making their own IP and/or new IP.

So let me get this straight, Nintendo's annual profit (not revenue) from the Mariners is less than $10M? If that's true, selling them to make $1B makes more sense doesn't it?

Wow! I had no idea Nintendo owned that team!

Well that and EA already has the rights to the Star Wars games, so I'd assume Nintendo wouldn't be allowed to use that either.

Still it'd be worth it just for the rights to Marvel games. Nintendo doesn't really need Mickey and co. ... they already have Mario and Pikachu and Donkey Kong and Kirby. But Marvel? Hell yeah, that could be a game changer for them.

When you lose 101 games in a 162 game season, with a $100M+ payroll and still manage a profit I would say that's damn good.

Imagine a winning club where fans show up and then you make the playoffs, which is where the BIG $$$ comes from.

Sorry you're disappointed! I know Nintnedo has a lot of problems right now but seeing as how they've been in the red the past few years, I thought they could use an infusion of cash. But like others have said, the Mariners do generate revenue, so maybe it's not the best play for them right now...

That's not wholly true. Somebody should get some real numbers out but Nintendo isn't bleeding too bad, basically a weak yen/strong yen play which comes about even. They've also been heavily investing into infrastructure.

Would be good for Nintendo, but still a terrible move for Disney.

Just by taking Marvel you rip into Disney Infinity, which is heavily geared to the Marvel Universe this time.

Not that we really need to discuss this because it's not going to happen. You don't hand over your IP to a company that isn't the market leader, nor do you even hand it to the market leader when your brand in itself has such wide spread appeal. Why would you ever make the mistake of limiting it's audience?
