Forums - Nintendo - Will Nintendo expand on 3D / Gamepad or drop them?

They'll keep 3D, maybe Gamepad

3D is now established with the DS brand and I'm pretty sure its the main selling point of the N3DS. People will be dissapointed if they remove that option

Gamepad should be adapted to be more like a traditional controller, minimise the screen, give it handles, have it like the dreamcast x PS4 controller. I honestly can't say whether Nintendo will keep though, I now kinda hope they do if its costs can be minimised. Problem with the Wii U was mostly weak hardware, terrible branding, weak software support and square controller probably screemed gimick (it looks like a toy). I don't think the actual screen put people off though, just it better form factor and if they compete directly with sony/ms next gen it will be an easy advantage.

I want them to drop both and just make a console with no gimmicks and up to date hardware for the first time in 14 years

14 years includes gamecube which was > ps2 by a long shot. I don;t kwnow hy you guys consider them gimmicks and want them to do what the others do. I'm sorry but 3 consoles that play exactly the same are a waste of time. Yes they could use the power but keep the pad and keep the 3d. What's the point of improving on 3d just to drop it 2 years later? Its going to be backwards compatible which means 3d will stay same with the pad. Tell me this. What advantage does dropping the pad and 3d give? and if you say hardware boost I'll just point out that gamecube didn't get much support either even though it had power.

When I said 14 years I meant that was the last gimmick-less console they released, but let me tell you why dropping the pad next console would be a good idea

Gamecube's problem wasn't its hardware

It was the marketing

Seriously, as much as I love it to death, it basically looked like a purple lunch box, scaring off most hardcore gamers

Leaving the only people buying the GC are the loyal Nintendo fans, which means the third party games sold horribly, and all the big sellers were pretty much only Nintendo games

That is why it did not get a lot of third party support

Wii U also has the marketing crisis, but for Wii U the main issue is the hardware

If it was on par with XB1 and PS4 and just as easily to develop for, I guarantee you Wii U would have just as good third party support (Also if it had a different name)

I think the Gamepad will become a staple in their platforms as it's a normal controller that has a touch screen, you can play any traditional game on it with out any issue I can see it being standard on their home platforms plus it's a nice feature to have and adds some nice touches, 3d depends on the costs in future tbh.

You clearly have no idea how 3rd party and nintendo work. Nintendo does not pay third party developers to make games for them or for extra features so their games skip nintendo consoles. This was started by microsoft and sony and has been screwing with the industry for a while. Why would they go to making games for nintendo when they can get cash to make it for the other which doesn't have the stigma of 3rd partys do not sell on nintendo. Traditonal console or more powerful hardware will not help nintendo in anyway. The only thing they need to work on is marketting.

Gamepad > useless 3D gimmick.

I swear, turning the 3D on barely changes anything. Ditching it and going for a much more powerful handheld would get you much better results.

Ditching the 3D wouldn't do much to provide better hardware (i'd be surprised if the feature is responsible for anything more than a small fraction of the 3DS's cost), but it would certainly result in much better looking games. Not needing to optimize around the 3D setting would free up a lot of resources. As someone who hates the 3D setting, that would make me happy :p

how can it be a staple when they cant even get more than one to work with the system at a time?

They said they want to make a more Third party friendly home console for next gen. (not PS4, Xbone and Wii U gen) I believe they might expand on the 3D, but I know they will be dropping the Gamepad, sadly.

That is why the Nintendo does not pay them, because they know that most of the install base is mostly loyal Nintendo fans, so most of the SW sold on the platform is Nintendo games and the third party games don't sell. Look how COD sold on Wii U compared to XB1(Similar install base), it didn't sell on Wii U because Nintendo's bad marketing, most Wii U owners are loyal Nintendo fans,  and most of the SW sold on Wii U is Nintendo, so they don't pay them any more to bring COD to Wii U

I agree you can even look as far back as Sega to see 3 consoles following the same route doesn't work because what difference would it make for all 3 to get the same third party games, people would still just buy the Playstation brand to play them on.

Simple, better hardware will be used in future much like how early consoles only had two controller ports then hardware progressed.
