Forums - Gaming - The 50 Best Selling Games of all Nintendo systems in Japan

New update.

Big new software on the 3DS side, Dragon Quest VIII, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and Yokai Watch Busters, with the later 2 being million sellers.

WiiU only got 2 new games, Yoshi's Woolly World and Super Mario Maker, both enter top 50 due to the extremely poor software sales of the system. Splatoon is the big success story as it just keeps climbing, #3 for now, it should go even higher.

Will update again in 3 months.

Regarding the top 50 on the Famicom list, if they have a (DS) it means it was a Disk System game, not sure if sales for games that were rereleased as regular cartridges are combined, just clearing what it means.

Little mistake too, Super Mario Bros. : The Lost Levels is a Disk System game.

This paints a very interesting picture. Nintendo systems software sales have progressively been dropping with the exception of the Wii and portables while having droped are managing to hold similar values in the last few generations.

I would say that its clear what Nintendo should do. They should keep their portabke business going and should look to recapture the casual market for consoles. I don't think they have any chance with hardcore gamers on home systems.

Pokémon winning almost everywhere :D

Happy to see Spatoon in third place, I hope it gets up to 2nd place and then goes down 3rd again due to Zelda/Pokkén...

I didn't know Galaxy 2 sold more than Galaxy 1 in Japan!

Switch!!!

So Fire Emblem If already sold 90k more than Awakening in Japan. Pretty good considering the dlc revenue of this game will be very high as well I think. Hopefully the next FE game can get higher production values.

What suprises me the most is that Super Mario Bros. 2 (i.e. The Lost Levels) is on No. 5 of NES charts. because this game is "special" even for the Japanese taste.

Launches aligned Splatoon is doing better than the best selling Pokemon spin off on home consoles, that is, back when Pokemon was the bee's knees and the home console market was healthy.

Also if Zelda ends up being a cross gen title I expect it to do worse than what TP did on the NGC.

Yeah, Splatoon should end up being the best selling Wii U title in Japan when everything is said and done. Would be the first time since the FC where a new IP achieved that on the home console front.

Kylee, do you think it's possible for Smash Wii U to reach 1m LT? I'm hoping they bundle it at some point.

Interest for the game isn't that big, unless they make something in the lines of a 20k-25k yen bundle I don't see it helping.

It's legging out somewhat nicely thought, over 200k sold this year, so depends on how it can do on the holidays too, maybe some sort of complete version with all the DLC.

It's biggest problem is the WiiU being pretty much done by next year, that could kill whatever sales potential it has left.

Also SMB is sort of a sequel to Mario Bros. which is in turn a spin off of Donkey Kong.
