Should they reduce the price of the Wii U?

Nintendo will lower the price of the WiiU when doing so means a noticeable price reduction (50$/€) without going back to losing money. After all, we know that WiiU hardware is profitable since a few months ago, but we still don't know by how much.

Because of that, and given how good was their E3 last year, I could see Nintendo announcing a redesigned 250 $/€ WiiU at E3, launching it shortly after.

Sure, they will get less money from the hardware, but given that most of the games on WiiU are from Nintendo, they could get back that extra money with the games that those new users will buy.

Please excuse my bad English.

well..... most WiiU bundles come with two games (SM3dWorld+Nintendoland; NSMBU+Nintendoland etc.) or a game and a controller (MK8+Wiimote). $ 300 seems a fair price, considering that competitors at best offer only one game.

Even so, I do believe Nintendo should drop the price to $250. Not sure if they can afford it, specially when it does seems that every home console maker is either selling their consoles with a loss or just even, trying to profit from software sales.

i think nintendo should pack in a pro controller in every premium pack and cut the prce for the basic pack a bit (20-30$)

and they need to cut the prices in europe a bit to match the prices in other regions.

I don't think Nintendo gives a fuck what Sony and Microsoft are doing.

That would certainly explain why nintendo's consoles consistently don't sell well even though it's primarly a video game company. What happens to any company that doesn't pay any attention to their competition especially if the competition keeps selling way better.

nintendo has to care about profits, not about marketshare...

The WiiU's problem isn't its price, it's the value people see in it. Knocking the price down $50 might help to a degree, but i doubt it would be worth the revenue loss (which Nintendo need right now).

Nope...this changes nothing

...and price isn't the problem

This.

Alot of people seem to think that if the Wii U dropped its price by $50 or more that people would be flocking to stores, begging for WIi U's. This is pue fantasy. The Wii U lacks software that appeals to the masses. Period. Casual gamers look at the Xbox 1 and PS4 and see significant titles released monthly, where the Wii U has months and months without notable software. Casual gamers see COD/Battlefield/Assassin's Creed/FIFA/Destiny/Far Cry 4 popular multiplatform title on Xbox 1 and PS4 but see that they are noticeably absent on the WIi U. Casual gamers see appealing mature IP like The Evil Within, Alien Isolation, Sunset Overdrive, Infamous Second Son etc coming to PS4 and X1 monthly, but mainly see overly cute titles containing Mario, Luigi, Wario, Peach and Toad on the Wii U. This is a serious problem that is now intrinsic in the Nintendo brand because they lost proper 3rd party support after the SNES and they are far too conservative to even attempt anything daring and even slightly mature....

It needs to care about both but having more market share will equate to more profit later on with digital sales and any purchases through eshop. They will just dig that hole deeper if they keep chasing after immediate profit over longterm plans to make more profit. They don't need to sacrifice profit for marketshare and vice versa. 3rd party developers have little interest in a console that's gaining little marketshare and eventually won't bother with ports or any decent ports. That will effect nintendo's profit down the line.

Marketshare leads to profits. When you have the share, you sell more games and get more money. With a high share, you can start grabbing big 3rd party exclusives and just beat down the oponents. That's what PS2 did: created a big share and got a lot of 3rd party exclusives. With that, they just used their share as a weapon to reduce their competitors share and their profit.

That's why MS is cutting the X1 price. They know that if the difference in software sales between PS4 and X1 keeps growing, they won't be able to snatch 3rd party exclusives and Sony will probably get them for free.

The Gamecube profited and it was one of the worst selling consoles of all time. Nintendo did not go for Marketshare.
