I said this a million times! . The 360's year was last year, and even with their best game and lower price they couldn't pull away from the PS3. I dont think the 360 can possibly sell more more this year than last(if any) , but I'm positive the PS3 will with games, blu-ray, and features attracting more people.
I dont think Banjo, Fable, and GoW2 is as good as Bioshock,Mass Effect, and Halo 3. |
Nope you're right. But they don't have to cause these games aren't gonna dissapear or decrease in quality all of a sudden. + GTA4 exclusive content, + Alan Wake, + Tales of Vesperia, + $100,- price difference, + Gears 2, + incredibly strong existing catalog I think 360 can be competitive at least. I agree that PS3 will have a good year though. "The time that they had to create huge distance and build a massive install base before the PS3 could really take root" How long thit they actually plan for it to take root? |
I think his wrong. Comparing those last 6 games shows that you have this year a pure RPG in fable, Pure Adventure/action in Banjo, and finally at least for me GoW2 is a way better shooter then Halo 3. Again is all about preference and this year the 360 has the best variety which can get more people to buy it. Again not trying to knock the PS3 as it does have some good games coming out but the 360 is as good if not better especially if you look at diversity. This will be a very interesting year :) |
I'll respond to you guys in order. First let me say that I dont think you are wrong. I can see where you are coming from on all of this. But heres the reasoning behind that.
1st poster: I agree that Halo 3 will still be around and qualilty doesn't die off over time. But the effects are far as hardware sales are done for all of those games past a few 1,000 consoles except for Halo 3. COD4 is the game to beat as of right now. Halo 3's ability to sell consoles was mostly replaced by COD4's popularity, Bioshocks hype stopped by Halo 3, and Mass Effect never really mattered much. So all three are good games, but you won't find many people buying console games because of those games. A couple of people will buy it because its good, but they will buy their consoles because of GTAIV or GOW2 for the most part.
2nd poster:And the 360 does not have the best variety. Just because it has an RPG, an action game, and a shooter doesn't mean it has great variety. You are only comparing the most mentioned PS3 games, while leaving out some of the big games that aren't as talked about. White Knight, Valkyria, GT5, MGS4, RFOM2. The PS3 is touching on every genre this year.
Also, the 360 might have highly acclaimed games, but Fable 2 and Banjo are not system sellers. I dont even know why Banjo is such a big deal to be honest. But those games are raised to that level and called system sellers because its all the 360 has exclusively(thats been announced) thusfar. But Fable 2 and Banjo are not on the level with GT5 or MGS4, or RFOM2 for that matter. If you want to be honest you know its true. In terms of selling hardware, the 360 has Gears of War announced this year. In no ways does it have software that will move more hardware than last year, because all their games combined minus Gears this year wont move as much hardware as Halo 3 did by itself.
The last thing you guys are realizing is that the PS3 and the 360 are not equals. Its not all about gaming quality(as you can see with the Wii game sales). What the 360 showed last year was that even with pricing and the best games it still couldn't break 10,000,000 in a year. If the situation was reversed between the PS3 and 360, the PS3 would have it 14,000,000 or more lost year. Owners of a PS2 will either not get a console, or wait until the PS3 is attractive in most cases to pick up a new console. It takes more than being slightly better for someone to take the brand name leap and leave all of their favorite games behind. Microsoft needs to sell their console from scratch with games, pricing and features. Sony merely needs to tell people to upgrade. Thats where the difference lies.
