Forums - Nintendo - Splatoon will be bigger than Zelda

Nahh, I already have too many bets going to add another bet to my list of bets. But it probably won't imo considering how some of the established franchises are actually struggling to break 1 million which I highly doubt a "new IP" will do.

And the thing is, I doubt that Splatoon will end up being this "pick up and play" sorta game in the same way that smash does because there is just soo many mechanics to the game that once people start playing, will get really good at exploiting. Like, there are platforms which if u shoot at, they will get bigger and there are wires which, if you fill them with paint, you can turn into a squid and travel on. This is much, much more of a technical game than cod and this isn't as "pick up and play" as smash bros where if your a noob, you can just pick charizard and spam side + b or pikachu and spam down + b.

Splatoon may look simple but it really isn't and you can certainly see that if you followed all the trailers

I disagree with you here some what Smash is pick up and play but also has deep mechanics, Splatoon could easy be the same.

Well, I am not saying Smash doesn't have deep mechanics, I am just saying that noobs will have an easier time with Smash than say Splatoon imo. (Not during launch but a few months after that) Cause Splatoon looks like a game that will end up like "Left 4 Dead" where eventually, it will just be like the people that play it are really good at the game and unless you have friends to teach you how to play the game as well as the secrets behind each level, you will lose a lot and drag the team down who will probably bitch at u a lot (If Nintendo enables voice chat). That is specially true if they incorporate "rolls" for each character like they do in the trailer cause then, one side might have the perfect team combination while the otherside won't have them cause there are new players on that team and they will get clobbered

That's fine (I rarely bet anyway)

I don't get the whole "new IP" thing meaning it can't sell well. Most games don't peak with the first in sales but that doesn't mean sales will be below average.

Splatoon might not be pick up and play but it looks like that to me. Even if it's a bit difficult, you can certainly have a more advanced pick up and play. Again, easy to understand, hard to master. I already know when I get the game I'm going to be playing with some people who don't play games much. I guarantee they will understand the concept of "shoot and swim"

We are just looking at it from different perspectives, either one of us could be right (obviously)

I don't know. Nintendo fans think of Zelda as a virtual jesus that has flaws. I doubt that they would admit that Splatoon surpassed zelda when and if it does.

Well, If I am wrong and it does sell a lot, then I will be really happy cause I do think this game brings a lot of new things to the table that people havn't really experienced yet. I think the game itself will be amazing and I really do hope it sells a lot but its just, I have this big doubt in my mind that it won't and I will be sad for it. Imo, this will be a great innovative new IP that won't get the sales it deserves and it is quite a shame for that. But if it does, yay

The shooter fans will continue their own games. This game is more geared towards Nintendo fans. Even a game like DKC: TF has a problem reaching 1 million. What hope would this untested IP have

Multiplayer, this is a big selling point in my opinion

Of course not, many can't admit that Animal Crossing surpassed it

If this happens at any point in the next couple gens I will eat my hat. Unless this goes all Smash-level crazy it ain't gonna happen. Not saying it can't be big, but I don't see it exploding that fast.

That's pretty sad. In what way did Animal Crossing surpass it besides sales?

Zelda is bigger than Animal Crossing. It's only bigger when it comes to handhelds, like Nintendogs was. It's basically just Nintendo's Farmville.

Splatoon won't get anywhere near that. I'm still wondering if it'll even be successful. People are putting way to much stock into this game.
