Forums - Gaming - Core Nintendo fans are to blame for the Wii U situation

A couple of the 3rd party has sold decent numbers.ZombiU has almost reached the million, not bad for a new IP on small userbase. Rayman Legends has sold half a million units, and those numbers are the norm in the other platforms it's in. And if we can count it, Lego City is going to reach the million soon.

The problem began with the last-gen ports. Some were weaker than the PS360 versions (Batman AC, ACIII, Mass Effect 3...) or were titles not that well known (Deus Ex, Ninja Gaiden III, Darksiders...). And also, the main Nintendo core isn't that interested in shooters, so the CoD games sold below expectations. And if CoD can't sell well on a system, that's an inmediate red alarm for everyone. After that, it was just a big domino effect.

Also, we shouldn't forget about EA's behaviour with the WiiU, practically bullying any potential company from developing for the system because of the Origin servers.

Or people have already bought those games on 360 and PS3. Many Wii U owners own other systems too, where these games run better and just have much more content available. Mass Effect 3 Special Edition launched around the same time when the Mass Effect Trilogy also was realeased. Where's the reason to get this EA game on Wii U?

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

So we're to blame that EA released Mass Effect 3 for Wii U and not Trilogy?

How many million of "core ninty fans", ones that follow gaming, actually are there?

Because I honestly feel like a very small minority. 3 of 6 retail games are 3rd party ( 1 of the 1st party is Hyrule Warrios and that's just published by N), and 3 of 5 digital games are 3rd party/indie in my collection.

Very sad. But I don't think the "core" ones are the ones to blame. It's NINTENDO'S FAULT for letting this situation of the core market not on the Nintendo consoles happen, and the Nintendo image being largely negative in eyes of most of the core market of teens- adults in 20's, 30's.

Your Wii U library consists of 50% 3rd party so yes you are in the minority.

I think this is false. Nintendo doesn't have a bad image with the core market. The core market remembers them fondly. They just don't like that Nintendo is releasing 'outdated' hardware and odd controllers. Besides that, they are tired of Nintendo's stable of IP's. Nintendo needs to reinvent itself but the overall image isn't terrible.

Also, I remember ME trilogy being the same price as ME3 on the WiiU. They put no effort into that platform.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Honestly I do agree that there are some fans that only buy Nintendo and don't want them to push out any new IPs, but there are others who want Nintendo to do something new, which is why i'm looking forward to what Codename S.T.E.A.M and Splatoon to see what they bring to the table. 3rd parties are both the fact that many Nintendo owners either own other consoles, or just feel that anything Nintendo isn't quality and there were some third party games that lacked features on the Wii U that were there on other consoles as well. Still I feel that both some of the more die-hard fans and Nintendo's decisions put them into the situation that they are in right now.

Its like you live in that specific Soviet Russia where everything is the opposite rofl.

Third party and NON Nintendo gamers are to be blamed.

TBH Ubisoft or Activision and EA etc have to make 10 good games in a row for me to consider buying their games on consoles @ full price again. Being absent 50% of the time or making mediocre games 50% of the time does not make me want their product. You wont hear "core" Nintendo gamers whine about non existant third party support 99% of the time its the other ones.
I still buy their games but only if they are exclusive and heavily discounted or extremely well made like Rayman.*
(just google how many sales they expect from a low budget ZombiU game on a console with 0 userbase and how they ONLY expect WatchDogs AAA game on 10000 consoles with a trillion userbase to sell 6m)

The rest is bought on PC for $5 each. (why waste money on games even the devs think have no value? They wouldnt discount them so heavily if they would have value)

And Nintendo does have a ton of new IP. The only problem is that Nintendo does not at all market the games. Who knows that Magical Starsign is a role playing game made by Nintendo? etc.

Another problem is that during the Wii era Nintendo made alot of new IP that had no exploration or story etc. Alot of them were simple games. Or feel like prototypes (like the stupid  Boxing game or the security camera robot game they showed at last years E3)

I agree with ZombiU, all things considered, it did well.

The lazy ports stem from past gens where Nintendo fans didn't support 3rd party. Is this a problem with the fans of today? No but I'd argue the people buying the Wii U also had a GC.

It is my fault. :(

Hardcore Nintendo fan here; 14/19 of my boxed Wii U games are third party, and I have Splatoon, a new IP, preordered.
