Actually if the Wii U is already set up and not reformatted, then you don't need the GamePad to play games unless the game says you need it.

This

You can play most Wii U games perfectly fine without the GP actually

My Gamepad AC Adapter for example was broken for a while, and the controller ran out of battery not much later, so I had to live without it for a month, while I was trying to figure out how to repair the charger (which by the way you can't find in stores either). The experience was really depressing. Suddenly the two Bayonetta games, The Wonderful 101, Smash and Captain Toad don't work without it. Pikmin needs it as well, but this game actually really benefits from the Gamepad.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

That actually sounds like a pretty awesome deal lol. You could just buy a pro controller separately.

No, you need the Gamepad. That sucks, but you can't access to Configuration if you don't have the controller.

Most is probably an acurate term in this case, but there are lots of games that do not operate without the gamepad. Additionally some of the apps and other software do not work without a gamepad.

To me, a Wii U without the gamepad is literally pointless.

I'd offer that guy $50 at most.

What apps?? Without the gamepad you cant connect it to the wifi iirc and all the apps I can think of rely on the internet.

I agree that the Wii U was built around the GamePad so without it, it won't function as well. With that said, it can & does apparently work.

I would pay $100 for the Wii U without the GP in the U's current form. I mean, you must really hate the GP to rather have a less functional console just to avoid it

Buy a controller. Boom, you no longer need a gamepad.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

I had a cat that ate up my charger for the gamepad and I ordered a new one that night from Nintendo's website. lol. But, yeah, there are plenty of great games that require the gamepad.

Did something happen to his gamepad or is he just not including it, which would be pointless.

My guess would be broken Gamepad and knowing the system is pointless without it and unwanting to replace the gamepad decided to try and sell it.

I could be mistaken but.... netflix, miiverse, that google walk app thing, nintendoTVii, ... and i'm sure there are others that I don't use that require it as well. Probably the other video related apps like hulu and amazon video.
