Forums - Gaming - Microsoft has changed another policy

Messed up the last thread about this topic so I scraped that one. Here's a revised version. :D

1. new article about new rules http://ap.ign.com/m/minecraft/85568/news/microsoft-announces-new-rules-for-streaming-and-le

2. new rules straight from xbox http://www.xbox.com/en-US/developers/rules

 3. old article with old rules. it's for comparison. http://www.gamespot.com/articles/new-microsoft-rules-prohibit-users-from-profiting-on-created-content/1100-6397939/

Recently, MS has changed their position on this with the xbone. With the ps4, you've been able to post vids anywhere you wanted and could make money from it

I'll leave my opinion on the matter out of it for a while. I'd like to see what everyone thinks on this. Please discuss.

How about now?

That site sure scales horribly on PC. Or, it actually scales too well, sort of. The images and videos get cut off but other than that, it scales very neatly.

Back on topic. I think those rules seem awfully strict. They give only the minimum freedom you'd expect these days, and nothing more. I think it's telling how even Red vs. Blue seems to need a special agreement, meaning it couldn't be created just like that anymore if it didn't already exist.

Personally, I don't understand why they're that strict. Also, I would like to know the details of the agreement on Red vs. Blue.

So, you can make millions off ad revenue still? What's the problem then? lol

Have Youtubers ever made money directly from a game? This really doesn't change anything. They make money from ads and its still that way.

While it seems a tad restrictive, I don't see it as a big deal. As long as they don't tighten up on these rules in the future.

Microsoft said they're very friendly towards Youtubers and such. And they know that videos like Let's Plays are basically free advertising. So I don't think there's anything to worry about.

Worst case scenario: Since they're issuing licenses (As opposed to just publishing general rules), that means they could revoke the licenses. They could attempt censorship of bad reviews if they wanted to. But I see this as very unlikely.

Anyone else?
