Japan seems to move on to PS4 much faster, during the same time with PS3 in comparison most devs were still making PS2 games and then switched to PSP when that system catched on. PS3 was largely ignored until mid gen. PS4 is easier to develop for and it's clearly reaping the benefits. They're transitioning fast with cheap and easy ports and reaching a bigger audience in the west than just being on the old ps3 or vita while also getting accustomed to the system for their full current gen games next.

It also seems that we're getting more niche games and not just on PS4. Something like Hatsune Miku wouldn't have been localized by Sega in 2007 or Tomodachi by Nintendo (see Captain Rainbow).  Overall I think this will be a better gen for AA JPN devs than last gen.

Thats for damn sure and I hope they all get localized. Ni No Kuni 2 is in the works also

And it's already clear this early in the gen that the PS4 will get all 3rd party Japanese support while the X1 will only get a fraction and the Wii U basically none.

and yeah, it looks like way better for the ps4 than the ps3 if we're talking about jap games.

I remember Yoshida talking about what a mistake it was for them to automatically assume that the Vita was going to get instant third-party support from Japanese developers moving over from the PSP and how they were working on being a lot more proactive in acquiring games. I'm pretty sure that lesson carried over to their efforts with the PS4.

Yeah after the mediocre launch Sony has really been putting a lot of work into getting japanese devs on board it seems, hopefully it somewhat pays off. I do find it funny that you put Silent Hills, a 2016 game, and the unnannounced Level 5 game on the list, but not FF XV, looks like people still don't trust SE with finally being able to get this game out.
