Forums - Sony - PS4 is getting more Japanese games than PS3 in its earlier years

It's because of its remarkably strong sales. Japanese dev may not be ready to abandon the PS3 but they are willing to port their games to PS4 and cash in while they can.

PS3 also had the likes of Dynasty Warriors 6, Virtua Fighter 5, Devil May Cry 4, that Yakuza spin-off, Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, Bladestorm, Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, etc... in its first year and a half. I feel tempted to include even more gamers from late 2008 since u included the likes of Street Fighter V and MGS5 in your list for PS4, but I think the point still stands as it is.

I think PS4 might have a higher number of titles releasing, but the difference is that PS3's were mostly all exclusive, and many of them released much closer to the PS3's launch. However, I expect third-party developers to ditch the PS3 by 2016.

You are aware that PS4 launched in Feburary 2014, right? It's not a year old yet.

In Japan they'll likely get it on Vita but in the West we know which platform they will get it on.

Right, that's what I meant. Most Japanese gamers, it seems, are content with handhelds or even older consoles. But in the west people want to move on to the new big powerful system as soon as possible.

and ps3 is currently getting more support than ps3 and ps4 in their early years. when they stop making ps3 versions of games a lot of people are going to upgrade.

Things are looking nice for the PS4. Let's hope this can revive the console industry in Japan.
