Forums - Gaming - AAA Devs Reveal The Facts Behind Broken Games, Are Publishers To Blame

To be honest devs know the time limit when they start out a game so if the try to over do it they only have them selves to blame and they end up working 80 hours a week whick makes them make more mistakes. if a games release date is Brough forward then I would blame the marketing team, but if the game has a three year build time then only lazy or or poorly skilled devs are to blame, and they have a couple weeks between going gold and release date to patch it, we did not have that chance back in the day

old skool

i kinda figure this was the case and just makes continue not buying most AAA games within their first couple weeks at least

I could have told you that publishers were the main problem. They have become much more draconian over the years. Just look up the indie dev Warhorse (whichis made up of reputable former AAA devs) and listen to their story of trying to pitch their idea to publishers and you'll here the same story: marketing teams simply have far to much influence over development.

They may know the time limit but they likely also have a design specification provided for by the publishers that they have to meet regardless of how feasible the dev staff think it is in the time-frame given (again by the publisher).

Do we smell a new crash like in the 80`s?

Aside from certain Ubisoft titles, I don't know why do people think many AAA games were broken in 2014.

Could anyone give me a refresh?

Halo: MCC, DriveClub, Sonic Boom, Little Big Planet 3 and some Ubi titles like you said before. Plus, tons of games with day 1 updates to fix bugs or unbalanced aspects.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

The 2nd Video Game Crash of 2015 is upon us!

But there were also games that weren't necessarily "broken" yet released with major problems. I don't remember exactly which ones. Didn't Destiny have some issues at launch? Watch Dogs?

Yeah, I've also heard that Destiny and Diablo III: Reaper of Souls had some minor problems at launch.

It´s a exageration.

There is no piece of code that is free from bugs and glitchs. Even "hello world!" can fail.

This is a business, if you don´t like go indie and try to live with patreon and other kind funding.

We don´t have infinity time to wait for the perfect game.
