I don't know about gorgeous but it's certainly cute. Character models look oddly out of place in that particular environment, though.
Edit: Really makes me want to play a fishing game.

I really dislike how Splatoon looks :/ It lacks the charm most other Nintendo titles have. The characters themselves are quite nice, but they look so out of place in environments (which look like a really awkward attempt at realism).
Ah well, each to their own.
Is it me or many of the Indies these days look better than most nintendo games?
Errr.... those screenshots honestly look like a vita game, there's much better screenshots of Splatoon out there.

Many do, but there are an awful lot of indie developers :p Only a tiny minority of them have either the tech or artistic skill to match most AA/AAA titles.
Splatoon isn't the best point of reference though, at least in my opinion. I'd almost call it ugly compared to some of Nintendo's other titles, such as 3D World and MK8. Technical flaws aside, those 2 both look wonderful.

The vanishing of ethan carter looks better than any sony, nintendo and xbox game, indie is not crap
