Should Nintendo make games with higher budgets?

Yes. Better game equals better sales. 29 18.71%

No. They need to hold bac... 11 7.10%

They have budgets that are fine as is. 115 74.19%

They need to spend way more money on marketing, but the actually dev budgets are fine. The issue is that there aren't enough Nintendo console games with Zelda-like production values.

No. A higher budget doesn't mean a better game, as proven by Destiny. But they should consider marketing their games more.

Ninty's budget plans for their games are fine as is, what they need to work and spend more money on is their marketing sector, Bayo 2 could have used a ton more adverts to get it out there.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

I agree with most of the previous posts, they could use a higher budget for their marketing instead.

I'd rather a smart budget than a big budget.

Although I agree with others in this thread that Nintendo has done well with their development budgets in reigning the spending-spree in, it just goes to show that someone in there is completely mismanaging the money they gain and save from those smaller budgets because it doesn't seem like they spend that money saved on much at all.

How much you spend making a game does not define how much you sell. Look at Minecraft, Temple Run, Mario Kart Wii, Flappy Bird. All those sold (well some were free, but that is besides the point), but they all sold very well, better than the companies could imagine and they made huge profits off of it. The only thing that determines sales is generally advertisement and then quality. Nintendo is #1 in quality terms, but very low in advertisement terms. (Recently they have gotten A LOT better though)

I was always under the impression that their budgets were already abnormally huge because even the smallest of Nintendo projects get years of development time and ridiculous levels of polish. (Majora's Mask 3D started development in 2011--twice as long as it took to make the original.) But maybe they've just got small teams.

Currently playing:

Bloodbath Paddy Wagon Ultra 9

a large number of the games on that list (which is unverified) of high budgets actually either did not make the publisher money or lost them money. sure there were some wild successes, but massive budgets never automatically result in success

also as some have mentioned I am pretty sure Nintendo does not always reveal their budgets for particular games, I would not be surprised if there are some that were higher than people realize

I don't have any problem with the quality, hell I think that Nintendo develops miracles with their limited hardware.

other factor is that games like Assassin's Creed or gta are developed by a lot of developers, Mario Galaxy and Zelda skyward sword were made by less than 150, and those are their most ambitious projects. Zelda wii u has the biggest Nintendo team for a game, so more people=more budget, but still less than than a normal company for a big AAA game because Nintendo works slowly and with less people. More budget for marketing would be great for a game like Zelda or a new IP like splatoon and Bayonetta.
